Hi everyone, I've found that my sleep schedule and sleeping patterns have gone to s***. I have quite a bit of urgency during the middle of the night and don't get much sleep. Usually by morning or early morning I can manage to get some sleep. Usually through the aide of medication. But, by doing this I then sleep during the day and get my cycle all messed up. Do you know how many commericals I've seen for that insomnia medication "Ambien"? Funny how they show that at night. lol. Does anyone else suffer from this, and if so do you have any suggestions or at least know of anything good on TV? lol. :toilet: :yikes: :lmao: :hmm:  :help: :shake:

Yes, my sleep schedule does get thrown off... in fact, for the past few nights, I've gotten up around 3am and stayed awake reading until around 6am... it's not pleasant. For me it is because my IC is being fueled by heavy stress at work right now and even on the weekends I dread Monday and can't sleep...

As for anything good on TV, I have not found anything at all ... LOL :)

I have problems, too, especially if my IC is pretty bad at that time. What I do is get up and take a hot bath, and let it relax all my muscles and it even makes my bladder feel better then too. And sometimes that helps. Sometimes nothing helps to be honest :(

Hope you get good sleep soon! :)

Blessing, Lori

yes absolutely. i wake up every night and having to go downstairs to use the bathroom is just the BIGGEST pain in the ass sometimes.

i've also found that, during flare up's, as exhausting as it is running back and forth to the bathroom all day, because i haven't really done much else to wear myself out i find it really hard to drift off to sleep. but maybe thats just me <3

:toilet: :toilet: Sleep for me is from 11PM to & 7AM of
course I am up to void at least 10 to 12 times during
that time. Take 50mg of Elavil which enables me to
sleep in between bathroom trips. However it really does
wear you down. Tried Ambian but had to discontinue
because it made me sleep-walk!!! Would give almost
anything for one decent nights sleep. :cussing:

Cheryl,
I also have horrible sleeping patterns that have improved with the use of Trazadone at night. I either have trouble falling asleep or wake up around 2 or 3 and can't go back to sleep. With the Trazadone I get decent sleep about 4 nights a week.

You can PM me or e-mail me anytime.

Hugs,
Barb

I get up about every hour to hour and half to use the bathroom. It is not fun!!! I am so tired during the day it is so hard to function and I can't really nap to much during the day b/c I have a VERY active 18 m/o son and to top it off I am 9 1/2 weeks pregnant!!!! Before I got pregnant I was on Elavil which helped at night, I would sleep 2-3 hours but after getting up to pee I was able to fall right back to sleep, not the case now!!!!! and it helped some with pain and urgency.... but I guess the lack of sleep now will help prepare for the lack of sleep with a newborn......

I get up atleast once a night and for some reason it hurts after urinating at night than in the day. I try to drink less water at bed, watch what I eat during the day and take my Elmiron so it isn't too bad

I am with you on the sleep problem! It seems I have to pee more at night and just can't get comfortable.Up most of the night, then no energy during the day.I usually sleep more in the daytime than at night. There is never anything really good on tv.Lots of reruns.I usually watch LIFELINE,Trauma,Life in the ER,stuff like that.Sometimes I read. And sometimes I log on here to see if there are any other insomniacs! Hang in there! It has to get better one day, right?

I have been using catnip to help me sleep. I know it is silly but it works. I struggle a lot a lot with sleeping scheduel with multiple diseases putting their 2 cents in at that time. I have been attacking my sleep ability just as I do with IC and trying multiple things to succeed and there has been a great imnprovement. I use reflexology, aroma therapy, and herbs.

I hope you find a way to help you. I find it does improve in time.
If I can help you anymore with theese let me know....I believe things will get better.

Take Care :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I definitely have a sleeping problem now. i am on ativan, which has helped a little, but I feel tired all day long. and no one seems to understand except you guys. they just wonder why i am tired when i do "nothing all day long". but getting up all night and then dreaming about peeing and having other disturbing dreams because of the antianxiety pills, and peeing all day long, can be quite exhausting. i try to nap when i can but that is not always possible. the lack of sleep and the pills make me feel like a zombie sometimes!!!

I think the Fatigue part of IC is one of the most disabling. I've never been able to take naps. I have a very hard time falling asleep and an even harder time falling back to sleep.

I've been on sleep meds for most of the past 6-7 years. First I took Elavil, which helped, but I gained weight. Then I took Atarax, which also helped. But eventually too much built up in my system and I developed a hive allergy. Finally, I took Ambien which worked wonders. But I did find that it worsened my depression slightly. Yes, I took it long term with no problem.

Now I'm off all meds since we are trying to conceive. It's been a HUGE adjustment not having sleep meds.

Anyway, please ask your Dr about sleep meds. Hope you get some restful sleep soon!

Are you serious? I feel like I never sleep! When I get home from work, my body is so exhausted! I go to bed, and sure enough it's tinkle time, over and over and over!

The anti anxiety med the doctor gave me helps me sleep better as well. Low dose of Klinopin and Xanax, but these are the type of meds one has to go off or cut down with doctor's supervision. Tonight my bladder woke me up hurting and I looked at the clock, it was 3 a.m. here and my son is working in England for awhile with 8 hours difference ahead of me. My mom gave me one of those calling cards you can call all over the world for cheaper and I called him and talked to my daughter in law and asked about my grandchild who is turning one year old soon. I went and got some water and walked around. Not feeling great at the moment; perhaps too much liquid (hot here lately) and with dinner. When my bladder woke me, ouch! I almost jumped out of bed. Sometimes it hurts to lie down long, especially on my back. So at 3 a.m. here it was 8 hours ahead. We had a nice visit on the phone. I will do my best to nap tomorrow at sometime. It's been hot here and that seems to bother my bladder as well.
Take care, and may some day, a non animal testing process may find a cure for this darn disease.
With love,
Songbird

When I am flaring it seems like I can only get 1-2 hrs sleep at a time and I uusually have to pee 5-10 times between 11pm and 6am. I often have to have a nap after dinner to make up for the lost sleep. Sometimes Benadryl helps me sleep, somtimes it doesn't.

I hardly slept at all when my IC was undiagnosed. After it was diagnosed and nothing worked in the beginning no sleep either. That was one of the reasons I had to quit working. Sleep deprivation is definitely a big factor to consider. I remember feeling like a walking zombie. Not that I have IC under control I sleep well at night and feel like a new person but it was a long time getting there.

When it's bad, I try to go to sleep, but keep getting up over and over to pee. Usually It's about 2 in the morning before I can get any sleep and then I get up early for work. :shake:

Yes, Chris, I get 3 hours of good sleep a night. Then it's infomercials. I try not to use the bathroom at night because that's when my bladder seems to spasm, and that pain most certainly keeps me awake. I try to just go back to sleep and ignore the urgency and the pain until morning, but sometimes ya just gotta get up. Jessibuon, you made me think to ask: Does anyone else have really weird dreams when they're in pain? I dream that I'm looking for a bathroom, or that there's a toilet in the cross walk and I actually use it! Or one in my mother's living room, etc. No modesty in my dreams! But I've learned that it means I'm flaring, so I try to be more attentive to my meds and what I eat. I really appreciate all the great info I get here.

I can only sleep for anywhere from 15 minutes to about an hour and a half (depending on how my bladder is doing) at a time so my sleeping schedule is pretty bad too..

Blessings, Lori

Beware of bathroom dreams! I always try to wake myself if I realize that I'm dreaming of going to the bathroom. It could cause you to wet the bed! I haven't done it in years, but remeber all to well.

I don't get bathroom dreams, but weird dreams? Most definitely!I used to never even very many dreams, but now it's like I have one, usually wake up crying! It's crazy!Best of luck to all of you!I just know someday there will be a cure,or at least some meds that work better than what most of us are taking, :)

Valli, that's what I'm afraid of! Sometimes I'm amazed that I do wake up dry. I hate the dreams where I'm in the girl's locker room, there's 50 toilets, and I can't get anyone to let me use one! It's so stressful! And none of them have doors on them anyway. And they're usually filthy. (Freud would have a heyday with me.) Anyway, sometimes I take a Uristat before I go to bed because I know it will numb my bladder for at least a few hours and I can get some sleep. Sweet dreams to you all.

YES! Some nights I wish I could sleep on the :toilet: setting up! Some nights I'm so tired that I get to the bathroom and back to bed without even opening my eyes!

So much for regular "sleep patterns"...
