Has anyone ever had surgery to repair a dropped bladder? I have stress incontinence and my urologist said I have a dropped bladder which can be common. I also have IC and a very painful urethra. I was looking on WebMd and they mentioned how the bladder is surgically resutered to your pelvis. Has anyone heard anything about this or gone through it? Thanks for your help

Dear Cheryl,
There are sugical procedures that can be done to repair a dropped bladder. A vaginal repair (AP repair) or a repair done via an abdominal incision are two of the ways this surgery can be done.
It is best to speak with your urologist or gynecologist to give you the information that is best suited for you.

My mom had the surgery done and did very well with it. I am sorry that I do not have more details but I can certainly ask her if you want. I will post again after I speak with her about it....I find out exactly "what type" of surgey she had, recovery etc...

Hi
I had what is called a Burch sling done for bladder and it stopped my stress incontinence and I can sneeze cough, laugh with no leaking.!!!!!!. I had mine done the same time I had a hysterectomy... I call it my hammock for the bladder (lol)
All the best

Hi!
I am due to have my bladder suspended and my wayward urethra reattached in the next month or so. I worked in a clinic with two urologists and right down the hall from the OB/Gyn docs and they were very helpful in providing all my options. I developed a rectal-vaginal fistula after my daughter was born and they couldn't repair it at the same time. I realized that it was essential after I started having IC symptoms, started retaining urine and during the pelvic standing up to diagnose that this needed to be done when my bladder released all over the floor. Once things get rolling, I will be sure and post my experiences. Of course, your best course of info is your doc.
Hugs,
Barb

Thanks for everyones advice and help. I really appreciate it. I do plan on speaking more to my urologist about this. I recently started DMSO instillations and that has been more on my mind than this. If anyone knows of anyone who had this and could describe their expierence with the situation that would be wonderful. Thanks again! -Cheryl :woohoo:

Hi Babs Rn, if you wouldn't mind after your surgery, keep me posted. That would be great. Best wishes.
Also, lalarainbow, how long were you in the hospital? Did they have your catheter coming out of your urethra or your incision? Thanks so much. -cheryl

Hi,
My incision was abdominal and verticle. The cath was out urethra and was taken out on the 3rd day. They let me pee on own -then had to cath and measure again to make sure I was emptying properly.. The cath going back in was a major pain.. The nurse kept missing!!! grrrr! I was able to go home on the 4th day. but I had a hyterectomy at same time.. If it was only bladder ,that might even be just day surgery like a laporoscopy is.
I did end up with a stubborn infection. :yikes:

I had a sling put in last November to put my pelvic floor back so my abdominal organs would not be hanging. My surgery was done vaginally and I would have gone home the following day, but I did my nausea/vomit thing I do from anesthesia so I ended up with extra days in the hospital. I was very restricted on lifting for about three months, but the results were good. My difficulty wasn't incontinence --- my bladder was hanging so low it was difficult to urinate and my bladder wasn't emptying. The surgery wasn't bad and it worked.

Thanks for all the advice Donna and Pam. :)
I had the bladder tact done about 4 years ago. I cured that problem, just wish the ic problem could be corrected that easy. I teach scool and was back at work 2 weeks later. I had to be cut to have mine done. Good luck.

Thanks for the info Doty. How long were you in the hospital for? Besides your IC symptoms did you find it ouchy or strange to go to the bathroom shortly after your surgery once you were home? -Cheryl
I just had to spend the night. I went home the next time. I hurt, but not when I peed, just when I moved. I had my ab cut for the surgery.

also new procedure for stress incont. and dropped bladder called the TVT tension free vaginal sling. It is done by a urologist in the OR and you are an outpatient going home that same day. We are doing quite a few of these - the new thing with good results. I do know that it is not uncommon to have to self- cath for 7 days post op but studies show the results are very favorable for this type of surgery
