Hey, I didn't know where to post this.

My regular primary care phy. asked if I had tried oxytrol. He gave me some samples and I think it is helping with urgency/frequency. That is mainly my only problem. I had a hydro done again in June and since then when I walk I can feel my bladder. Every step I take I can feel it like its swollen or something. I regret having it done again.

I am going call and get him to write a perscription of it for me and try it for a month or 2 to see for sure.

If anyone else has tried this I was wondering if when you go to urinate do you sometimes notice that it smells different than usual? Sometimes when I go it smells funny not like normal. I feel stupid for asking but just wondering if it could be the medicine.

I have tried everything and I think I will just try to make my self understand that my symptoms could just be getting worst. I'm 31 and have been dealing with it since I was 24. I just started school again and I'm trying to get into a Respiratory Therapy or Nursing program to do something with my life and I'm scared by the time I finish my symptoms my be to bad to work. Not to mention I still want to have children.

Sorry this got to be so long I am just mad right now. I just wish they could find out why we have this and be able to fix it.

Thanks

Laina

Hi, Laina, yes I also have the weird smelling urine. Everyone always says, it must be a vaginal infection or a UTI but it's not - been checked many times for both when the smell is there - it's just the way my urine smells when my bladder is inflammed and hurting. I call it "IC pee."

Another lady on this board many months ago, when this topic arose, said her uro said that it's because of the extreme inflammation - it's from chemicals released during inflammation.

For all I know, it could be the smell of the protein that is released by our bladders called "anti-proliferative factor" that is not released by non-IC bladders. And perhaps those who do not have this odor, are producing less of the APF stuff than those of us who DO have this odor to our urine.

I don't know, I'm just guessing. But I know that I do have odd smelling urine when my bladder is bad, and normal smelling urine when my bladder is feeling okay. Just to let you know you aren't crazy, and you aren't the only one who has noticed this.

Blessings, Lori

Its funny that you all mention this urine smell. I went to the uro today for my bloodwork and physical and I told her about the smell I had been having, mainly when my bladder is bad and she checked me for a vaginal bacteria but it was neg. She said it shouldnt be coming from my urine but I know it is. thanks for letting me know I'm not crazy either. Kathy
