Well I guess this is the best place to ask this. I feel really lame asking this, but don't know who else I could ask, and you all are great that I know you won't make me feel stupid for asking this! I'm only 18 and a virgin, so I don't know much about sexual things. My friend (who I'm not going out with, but could basically be my boyfriend) wanted me to ask my doctor, and I was like no way! So thought I could ask it here.
I'm not sure how to put this, but hopefully you will understand what I mean. Ok when I'm like making out or doing things that make your hormones whack, not sexual things, but still things that trigger the hormones. Well it makes me really have to go to the bathroom. And so I have to always get up and go to the bathroom, and when I do go I do end up having to go, but sometimes it burns when urinating after. Well I was just wondering, is this normal? Or could it just be the IC? Does anyone else have this problem?
It's not too huge of a problem now, but I'm just concerned how when I'm older and get married will be able to handle this when I do more sexual things. I guess I just wonder how can I be ableto have sex if I have to continously get up to go to the bathroom.
So yeah, there my embarrassing question. Just wanted to know if anyone else has this problem, if it is normal, or if it is something I should be concerned about. Thanks to anyone who answers!!!
I would think that this is part of the IC. When you don't have IC, it has been my experience that you do not have the sensation to go to the bathroom, nor do you have burning upon urination. It is suppose to be pleasureful without the annoying need to go to the bathroom. Hope this helps to understand your symptoms!

Nothing is too embarrasing to ask here, so please feel free! I also have that feeling if I am aroused. I have the urethral irritation and a little burning. I posted awhile ago about a show on Discovery Health channel (Berman & Berman) that discussed the glands next to the urethra being swollen and that an orgasm has been proven to collapse the glands, thereby giving some relief to the urethra. Very interesting. Since you are still a virgin, masturbation could bring relief for you.
Hope this wasn't too embarrasing. All my best.

Yeah...all gets swollen down there and when the hormones kick into high gear, more blood rushes down there (like a guy and his penis) so because you are already swollen and you add more blood to the area and you have to pee, urethra is irritated. Makes sense to me. (what was said above)
Do what ya gotta do... I posted an earlier note that said my psychologist (male) suggested I use a vibrator to "teach myself to be sexually aware of myself again.." my husband and I have pretty much lived a sex free life for 2 years...neither of us is really happy. But he has been amazingly patient.
Good luck. A vibrator is prob. pretty scary to even contemplate at your stage in life...take life one very slow step at a time. I'm scared to death to actually go through with it the first time "again" but with the help of relaxation training that day should be closer than it is now....and, believe me...there is nothin' sacred on this website except respect for each other. Unfortuanately, this disease makes it so we have to talk to others about our bodies, and I don't mean my eyeballs (which are hunky dory thank you very much) I have contemplated suicide, divorce, had nervous breakdowns, withdrawn from my family, lost my job, and have to explain all this without saying, in essence, "my cootchie is on fire and it has exploded to my ribs" . ahem.
Good luck, best to you and don't be shy.

It is possible to have an infection in the paraurethral glands along the urethra. They are similar to the male prostate glands which can become infected too. A doctor can determine if the glands are tender via an exam through the vagina. Dr. Ruben Gittes at Scripps Clinic in CA has written about this infection. It is also called "Female Prostatitis". Sometimes an antibiotic is prescribed. Some say they have pain after peeing due to this kind of infection.

First, Tommy gal -- thanks for taking time to ask your question and not letting yourself get too embarassed to do so -- it is a great place to ask.
Second, as a Christian, I am very pleased and have a lot of respect for a girl who will keep her virginity in this day and age -- so kudos to you!!!
I too need to go pee when I get aroused. I am married and always take time to go pee before we are planning to be intimate -- but regardless, it seems that soon after we begin foreplay, I am having to get up to pee. That is just part of a relationship with someone who has IC. Peeing is what we do!!! :toilet:
But, you should still be sure to talk with your doctor and hopefully you have a Urologist (bladder specialist) who you can tell about this -- you don't need to be real specific, just let him/her know that when you and your boyfriend start making out you get aroused, and always have to go pee -- then let him know about the burning to be sure you don't have something else going on.
I don't have burning when I pee, but it is often difficult to start to pee once I am aroused... in fact, there have been times that I have had to stop two or three times to pee before we actually have intercourse. I guess when you are with someone who cares about you -- they care about the whole you -- and accept that with everyone, there are going to be some issues we have to deal with -- I put up with him not shaving before he comes to bed -- but I don't want to make out with a prickly face -- so if he wants to make out, he shaves first --- hmm... he's shaving.. do you think tonight......
Anyhow, I am really proud of you and have a lot of respect for you at 18 to come here and ask the question... and glad that your boyfriend is supporting you in finding the answer! Pee first -- sit a bit and wait for the second few drops that will come generally within a few minutes -- this double eliminating can often help with that need to pee right soon again also... My URO nurse taught me to do that and I find it really helps!
God Bless!

I have to add to the list of "women who need to pee when they get in the mood". I have had this sensation since the first time that I learned what arousal is, and I would have to assume it is the IC (since Ive had symptoms since early tweens).
Alas, I am married now and still have to run out every once in a while, but I do try to go before hand. My gyn also suggested that I use pyridium before hand to try and numb the bladder a little bit. Some people use muscle relaxers. Since you are a virgin, you may not find out for a while if you have burning afterwards, but be prepared for that as well.
After being intimate, its a quick dash to the bathroom, use a cool washcloth (run under cold water) to calm any swelling, go to the bathroom AGAIN.. then crawl back into bed for the snuggle. Its a joy of IC, huh? But, I have a wonderful hubby who just fluffs the pillow for my return.
