I found this book at the everything's a dollar store so I decided to buy it. I just finished reading it & think it's an excellent book for all women to read. Here's what the back cover says:

A physician's explosive account of women's medical treatment - and mistreatment - in America today.

Unnecessary procedures (hysterectomies). Unchecked diagnoses. Pain shrugged off as female hysteria. These are the telltale signs that sexism is alive & well in the medical suite - and the symptoms of a physician who denies women the care thay deserve.

In this groundbreaking book, Dr. John M. Smith, an obgyn, exposes the prejudice that often lies behind the professional mask. And in a work of courageous patient advocacy he reveals how you can tell if the doctor who cares for you really cares about you.

Karma,
Thank you for the recommendation.

Last week during my DMSO instillation, I was talking to my nurse about other doctors. I asked her how long she thought it might be before Obgyn's became knowledgeable about IC? I gave her the rundown about how many I had seen who hadn't even heard of IC or knew very little about it. She said that this is a choice those doctors have made themselves. There is plenty of info out there, and they have chosen to not look into it. My Uro, specializes in IC and is in a major teaching hospital. They held a conference recently in which they invited several Uro's and Obgyn's. Several Uro's showed up and only 2 Obgyn's. That is really sad!

That book does sound interesting. I would be interested in reading this part-
('And in a work of courageous patient advocacy he reveals how you can tell if the doctor who cares for you really cares about you').

Thanks Karma!

Lyn

I couldn't believe what all this doctor was saying about health care. Well, sadly I can, but a lot of the things he talks about are shocking. IC isn't mentioned in this book, but pelvic pain is. This book sheds a light on the 'marketing' of hysterectomies for quick cash & tells you the only reasons that are legit to have one. He talks about witnessing more than one gyn walk into an OR where another dr's patient was already asleep for surgery, lift up the sheet & admire the patient's breasts! :yikes: , Male Dr Ego, how the medical industry is not monitored. I can't remember it all now. There's so much. The one thing that really stuck out to me was when he said that if you want to know what a doctor is really like, then ask the nurses at the affiliated hospital what they think about dr. so & so.
