I was on Oxycontin for 1.5 years. Then with new insurance that dropped coverage for that drug the doctor changed my med.
I was put on MS Contin (long acting morphine). Since the morphine I have lost a LOT of weight. I started out at 137 pounds. I am 5'5". I now weigh 106 pounds!!! EEEK

Now our insurance says they will pay for the generic 80mg Oxycontin. My uro wants me to start using that along with sub lingual 10mg morphine tablets for breakthough pain. I am thrilled and do hope that my pc doctor will write for it. (my uro has our pc doctor write the rx's.)

I am scared that I may never gain my weight back. My wardrobe is scant because everything is too big! Even my 150 buck swimsuit that I got last year is huge, the rearend just sags. It looks horrible!

People that are strangers have the nerve to walk up to me and ask if I'm a cancer patient or if I suffer from anorexia. It drives me nuts!

My question is, for those of you who have taken Morphine or Oxycontin, did you experience weight loss? Or did you have severe nausea and or vomitting?

Thanks!

Hi

I am on about 60 mg of oxycontin a day and an extra 10 mg for breakthrough pain if needed. I do experience some vomiting if I take it on a completly empty stomach. I actually gained a little weight after taking it for a while. I think because I was feeling better and was more hungry. Lately, I have been losing a little weight, but mine is intentional. I want to fit in the clothes I had before. I haven't gained 50 pounds, but I would guess about 8. Sorry. I don;t think I was any help. The oxycontin really helps me I have IC and fibro. Without the oxycontin, I can barely walk, my uro doesnt know this. I wouldn't be able to work without it. Believe me I have tried, and my uro wasn't thrilled with my self medicatication:confused: :dogrun:

Hi,
I tried both the Avinza 24 hr release Morphine and the Morphine 12 hr er, I was so nauseated from them that I had to stop them. I usally take lortab, and that has not been even touching the pain and spasms that I get, so my PM Dr. has been trying some other meds. I had gained about 20 lbs. back around the holidays, and was also on Paxil. For my height this was too muchweight, 5'3" 140...yuk...Anyways, My Dr. switched my anti-depressant to Zoloft at about the same time that I was trying the Morphine meds. I have lost over 20 lbs. and since being off the Morphine, I do not have the sick stomach stuff, just not the appetite I did have. I really think it was the Paxil that put the weight on and switching to the Zoloft that helped that, plus the Zoloft is working for me for now. I saw my PM Dr. yesterday and she wants me to try the Duragesic patch...I posted about that, so will not bore ya'll with it again. Mainly I have not put it on yet as I am scared to. But I feel like I live on the Lortab just to be able to get out of bed, so I guess I have no where to go but up...:) . Good luck to you, and I hope it all works out for you. When we do find a med that works and we can tolerate and "get back to living" it is so wonderful!!!
Take Care,
Kan
