Ok! That was my last attempt! I cannot take the discouragement, let down, disappointment, etc from these diferent pain doctors who say that they dont perscribe pain meds. They will give me muscle relaxers for my back but thats it... Well you know what i know my pain and it is Ic related and Muscle relaxers are not what I need.. Oh well... back to square one and I have now given up!. I do have back pain severe and I am not in a flare right now so what it is from I do not know. I have never had back injury or anything so u do the math. So sick of it. I guess I will have to "LIVE WITH IT" Since there is no help out there and all doctors in Mass are against giving out enpough pain meds on a daily basis so that one who needs them can function half way normal. I guess they would rather up be disabled, poor and not work. Well thats what they are going to get. Cant do without them and cant get them so thats my only sad pathetic choice I guess. And it is illegal to take a prescription that is prescribed to someone else so....... Left with No choices. Thanks USELESS DOCTORS!

Coleen,
I'm soo sorry to hear that the pain clinic isn't helping you. I completely understand & know where you're coming from. I've been waiting to get into a pain clinic for 2 months now & it has left me in despair. I'm wondering if I'm ever going to get in & what they're going to do for me once I get there. How do they expect us to make it without pain meds? The question shouldn't be why should I give this patient pain meds. It should be why SHOULDN'T I give this patient pain meds.
I would give the muscle relaxers a try, though. Your back may be hurting because all your muscles are tight & inflamed. I was put on Levsin a week ago & it has made a huge difference in my pain level. My bladder isn't spazing out near as much as it used to. I was at the same point as you, thinking only pain meds would help me, but gave the Levsin a try & am glad that I did.
I thought I would mention to you that chiropractors are a blessing when it comes to my back, neck, & shoulder pain. Have you seen one? It's instant relief for me & may benefit you as well.
Please don't give up looking for a good doctor. There are some out there even if it takes a while to find them. It will be well worth the struggle in the end.

Thanks!. I am going to take the muscle relaxers but they are 1 at night! I am not so sure what exactly that is going to do for me during the day but like you said its worth a shot. I have to go for an x-ray this weekend and then have all my files sent over to this new pain dr who still isnt prescribing pain meds. Anywho, he will look things over, and see what the last pain clinic said and see if I need physical therapy and where to go from here. I will continue to see him in hopes i get some releif or therapy or like you suggested chiropractor but I guess first he needs the x-ray to determine exactly whats up. You know as Im sitting here iM thinking why am i continually paying all these medical copays and it doesnt help anyway. Im sitting here typing this and so damn uncomfortable. My back is aching... DOES ANYONE CARE!!!!! AAARRGGHHH!!!!!!! Im so MAD!

Colleen,
I know how tough this situation is. My family doctor would not prescribe me any pain medication, neither would my 1st or second urologist. They did refer me to a pain clinic, for which I am forever greatful. The pain management dr. is a great person who is genuinely concerned. This is a rare commodity in medicine today. I was in the Air Force and worked in the hospital for 8 years (Public Health). I learned alot about interaction with physicians. Most are rushed, overworked, overcharged for malpractice insurance and some get so jaded that they see every patient as a potential lawsuit that could end their career. It takes a very special person to be able to get past all of that and still be compassionate. You have to hang in there.
These doctors live in fear of being audited by the DEA and found to be prescribing narcotics in a way that the "government" deems inappropriate. It would scare me as well. Keep looking.
Make sure that you explain to the doctor, very calmly and rationally, that without some form of pain control, you cannot function. Tell them that you will sign a pain contract, submit to drug testing or whatever it takes to assure him that you are NOT a drug seeker. Those who take illegal drugs, will have a very hard time getting help from the medical profession. It would be crazy for them to jepordize their whole career for someone else's quest to get "high".
Sometimes you have to go through a progression with them, trying less potent, maybe non-narcotic remedys to prove that they don't work. This is what I did. I just gritted my teeth and once he saw that I was willing to do whatever it took, we started a very productive dialog. Try these things. I really hope you get some relief. I am currently taking percocet 5/325, 4 times per day and baclofen (muscle relaxer) 20mg 3 times a day and it really is still not enough. But I have to drive to work, and he will not presrcibe anything stronger and continue to let me drive. At this point it is my choice to deal with a little pain and be able to continue working.
Have a great day.

Hi Coleen!
I'm sorry to hear you are having such a hard time!! I've had similar experiences. Please be strong and press on! Keep going and keep trying! I always take a copy of Dr. Moldwin's IC book with me to EVERY Dr. appointment and have pages marked. Get educated and remember the doctor is working for YOU. Its kind of funny, if you suffer from migraines docs are more that willing to give you everything under the sun--because we have all had killer headaches. Tell people your bladder hurts and they look at your like you're goofy!:)
Press on my sister!!!!!!!!

I'm so sick of it ALL.
Doctors (even tho' I really like my pain doc), if I never had to see another one the rest of my life....
Meds...absolutely necessary, but now I'm physically dependent. So dr visit are now mandatory, not optional. Otherwise, withdrawal.
You just get to point to where the whole thing just drive you nuts. I'm 33 and I've been dealing with this since I was 19. In other words, my whole adult life.
I never had a career because of it. Might have never had a second wife or my daughter if I hadn't had a brief, mild remission.
I just hate IC almost as much as if it were a person.

It is so unfair the way you are being treated and I'm sorry you haven't found someone that is willing to work with you and help you. It is so frusterating and you deserve so much better. I hope you find a good doc who will help you soon. Hang in there. Take care - Chris

Colleen,
I'm sorry IC pain has got you down. It does interfere with your everyday way of life and it's impossible to get used to. I suffered a year trying to find out what was causing my pain. I found a great Urologist. He is very supportive and understanding. I have suppositories my doctor prescribed to me for pain and spasms. I could never get a good nights sleep (I used to get up 8 to 10 times during the night to PEE!) until I started using these. The name of them are B&O Suppositories. Maybe your doctor can prescribe these for you. There's got to be a good Urologist in your town. Take time to do a little Doctor research. I hope you get relief soon!

It's stupid isn't it! :cussing: Everyone in the world should have this for just 6 months and that would change all their minds. THere isn't a pain doc around here who deals with IC. Would have to go to NYC so that's just out. TOo far and who has the money to travel that? :headbang: I'm just about ready to chuck the whole mess. Lets all of us buy a big island and live there peacefully with our pain meds and potties. What do you say? Lets start a collection. :toilet:
