she just gave me some , plus cephalexen to take once a night ......and the hydroxine two or three times a day.......told me to talk the antibiotic first week and then add the hydroxine......to see if it would help me any......
all i do is pop bladder medications.......but if it will work......just wondering other people's thoughts on this..........

Hydroxyzine and diet are the mainstay of my IC treatment. Along with Prelief when I eat something that may cause me trouble. I have been on it for 2 years now and my IC is better than it has been for years. I still have flares but OMG how much better I am.
It may cause you some drowsiness at first as your body adjusts to it but usually doesn't last real long. I take it every night and sometimes during the day. I can take it during the day now and have no problem with the drowsiness. I hope it will help you.

Well.......she just gave it to me along with the cephalexen so i don't know which one will help......maybe i should try it first instead of the antibiotic............

did either of ya'll take it for frequency and urgency?? cause that is my main problem?? and how long did it take it to help you??

thanks
gloriabono.......

I am on instant messanger as gloriabono if anyone wants to discuss this.........

The frequency and urgency is what it is helping for me. I have been on it for 2 years now. The antibiotic would be helping an infection. The hydroxyzine is more of a long term medication and you may not see immediate results, it can take several months sometimes to see improvement with it, that said, I could begin seeing results within a week.

Hi there. I take the hydroxyzine 25mg at bedtime. It makes me pretty groggy in the morning, but it sure helps to make sure I get a full nights sleep without waking up several times through the night. I've been on it like 2-3 months and it works well.

Hopefully it will work for you too!

Well it does make me very drowsy and groggy but if it will curb my urgency /frequency then it will be worth it........i just started taking it about three days ago........but she said i could take it up to three or four times a day if i needed too.....which sounds like a lot to me , when i hear of others only taking it like once a night ....its 25mg.........i have also talked to others that take 50mg once a night.......
I still woke up four or five times last night ........but sometimes i wake up more than that so i guess its ok......
I am hoping it will work so well that i won't have to have interstim yet........
i am praying it will.......
thanks

I've been on hydroxyzine for some time now. It has helped somewhat for the urgency and frequency. My problem is it knocks me out. I take 50mg at nighttime and I'm down for the count within 1 hour of taking it. The next day I'm even still very groggy until early afternoon. I have a low tolerance to alot of medications but this is one that I am able to take, only wish it didn't make me so tired.

What is working for me is the liquid hydroxyzine! I take 10 mg teaspoons throughout the day and night. Usually 20 mg at night and a maybe a tsp or two split up during the day.

It has really stabalized my allergies! It has been YEARS since my sinuses were this clear, and I've tried a slew of allergy meds. I haven't noticed much difference in frequency, but I've only been on it a few months!

I like the liquid Atarax because it is one LESS PILL I have to take! LOL....Nice change of routine! Tastes like candy too! :biglaugh:

Hi!

Im having major problems with Urgency/frequency. Im being careful on diet and am taking zyrtec. I would really love to get some tips on how to manage the urgency/frequency and what are the major things to avoid.

Thank you!

I also noticed when I added Vistaril I saw more improvement. I waited a few weeks and added Elmiron (which I've been on for 4 months now).

I've been doing great up until last week. I had a very bad IC pain day, horrific pain, and now this week I'm in a flare (no horrific pain though). I havent had a flare in many months.

But to answer your question, yes I think Vistaril started helping with my frequency almost immediately (within a few days, anyway). I take 50mg at night and like Jen says, within an hour I'm knocked out!

Hi.Can someone tell me if Atarax, Vistaril, and Hydroxyzine are all the same thing?
Anyone taking Elavil for frequency?
Thanks

Hydroxyzine is the generic. Vistaril and Atarax are brand names.

I take Elavil, but for my chronic IC pain. I never really noticed any frequency improvement with just the Elavil. But I did notice some improvement after I added Vistaril (with the Elavil).

My urologist said today that she's actually seeing better results with Zyrtec than she does with Atarax. So I got a prescription. Unfortunately, my insurance company won't cover it, since I could be taking Claritin OTC for my allergies. HELLO! I'm not TAKING it for allergies! I'm going to have to get my doc to go to bat for me.

Here is a website that I use all the time for you. It gives descriptions of drugs and other names used. I went throught it and looks like these three are the same.

I went to remedyfind.com outta curiosity about brand names or whatever. I found this comment and it bothers me, I wanted to know others input on it. I know we don't have hives problem but doesn't the long term use effect anyone?
