I'm Never Alone

The journey is hard on this road dark and long.
Am I on the right path? No! This has to be wrong.
And where are my friends, who since childhood I've known?
Have they gone? Turned away? Am I left all alone?

My family and loved ones all say, 'Just pretend
That the pain isn't there, or you'll always depend
On the meds to get by.' (Makes me feel cold as stone!)
Did they leave? Turn away? Am I left all alone?

Onward, in darkness, I stumble and fall.
I cry out, 'Please help me, God! Answer my call!'
But I hear only silence......for reasons unknown.
Has He gone? Turned away? Am I left all alone?

I cry out again, 'God please show me the way!'
And then, up ahead I see light -- bright as day!
And in the light, people.....but think in somber tone....
They'll be gone. Turned away. I'll be left all alone.

But to my surprise, I'm surrounded by love!
'These people will help you.' God smiled from Above.
'Welcome!' they said, and with hugs made it known
That from that day on, I would not be alone.

My ICN friends didn't turn me away.
I don't have IC, but they asked me to stay.
What a blessing it is to know where there's a zone
Of acceptance and love....WHERE I'M NEVER ALONE.

Thanks everyone. I must confess that I've had one of those weeks of feeling as if I haven't done enough with my life... Why are women so good at that???

So, despite having a great weekend, I woke up this morning feeling a little tearful. You're notes lifted my spirits greatly. Cricket... I don't know how you knew exactly how I was feeling, but your poem really really really helped!!! I have days when I do feel so very lonely with my IC. I, like many of you, have lost many of my friends who kept playing tennis when I couldn't. We have very different lives now... and mine is quieter than it used to be.

I've taken the day off and we're going to go see "King Arthur" in about an hour. Then, it's pizza and a family poker party. I always try to do something that will make everyone laugh. So, we've done bowling, miniature golf, country dancing and stuff. This year, after watching celebrity poker on TV, I'm raring to try it. So, I've already gotten the prizes for the winners. We'll just spend an hour or two just having some fun... especially with my da whose 82 and can't get around like he used to.
