My boyfriend and I are having people over for the 4th, and I so badly want to have a drink or two (or maybe more, lol). If I take a lot of prelief do you think I will be okay? I havnet touched alcohol since i was diagnosed. I notice when I drink soda without prelief, I get a dull pain in my bladder that goes away after an hour or so. Im not very experienced with using prelief ( i just avoid problem food and drinks), so I dont know how much it would help with alcohol. Any advise? thanks:)

If you want to try alcoholic beverages, I suggest you do it some time when you will be at home and can go to bed if needed. When you're having a party and wanting to have fun is not a very good time to take chances.

I agree with Donna, you need a trial run. Also, stay away from acidic alcoholic beverages, ie wine or drinks mixed with no nos. then take a whack of prelief and have one drink and see what happens.

I agree with Donna to... the last thing you want is to be in massive pain at your own party..

I was thinking of trying a couple of sips of vanilla vodka on the rocks w/a splash of water. I am so sick of drinking water when I go out. I'll try it with prelief in the next few weeks (I'm still chicken) when I don't have to go anywhere.
will let you know!! liz

I've found that I can eat quite a few of the "no-no" foods without even Prelief just fine. However, I've been feeling symptoms this week for the first time since beginning antibiotic treatment 3 months ago, and the only thing I've done differently is to have wine a few times with dinner. So (and I sit here with a cup of wine as I type!) I'm going to try it with Prelief and if it doesn't help, no more wine!

I can very occasionally have some alcohol if I drink alot of water with it. Drinking water keeps you hydrated (since alcohol can be dehydrating) and it helps dilute the effects of it in the bladder. I've also found that vodka doesn't bother me much. But wine & champagne are worse (maybe the acidity or sulfates).

Anyway, I only have a drink about once every few months, very rarely. But drinking alot of water helped w/ the burning & pain.

I do drink when we go out and I drink Bacardi and coke. I don't get any pain, but oh my gosh, once I have that first drink, I might as well drink the rest of them sitting on the toilet! And whats even worse, I live in Las Vegas, and if we go to a club, chances are there are only 1-2 toilets, and about 30 women in line waiting for them. By the time I get back to our table or my husband, I have to go again. It ruins my night totally. Once I even had to bribe the cleaning lady in the bathroom with $20 to let me slip to the head of the line. And I have to make sure my pants dont have more than a zipper and a snap, any more than that and Im in trouble! ;) Does anyone have a solution (other than not drinking, I only have 1-2 drinks but we don't get to go out often)Does prelief help with frequency?

Hmmmmm....

I always had to pee a ZILLION times when drinking, even before I got IC. However, I am thinking more about my drinking behavior (what little there is) and I know that when I have a mixd drink like a Gin & Tonic, I drink tons of water to keep hydrated against the alcohol and I haven't noticed problems with my bladder.

However, when I have had the wine in the past few weeks, I haven't done that. In fact, sometimes the only thing I drank that night was 1 cup of wine. So no wonder my bladder was acting up. :bonk:

Peggy Anne,
Instead of slipping the cleaning lady $20, why don't you use the ICN restroom access card. You can get one through this website. I have yet to use mine, but never leave home without it. It comes in handy with long lines.

I use to enjoy the occassional drink , marguarita, pina colada or midori colada , or a glass of wine........didnt do it often but would always usually be in bladder hell if i drank more than one........so i havent had any alcohol in almost a year.......I am so tired of going out and only drinking water myself.......its about to drive me crazy.......even at home all i drink is water now.......and i freakin hate water.........i havent tried prelief with the alcohol either so if someone does, let me know......or if anyone knows any bladder freindly alcoholic drinks that i might could just have one of , once in a while.......
I do use the prelief if i drink the occassional glass of spriite or decaf tea......and sometimes i use it with kool-aide......but i can most of the time drink kool-aide and it doesnt bother me......i just wish i had more beverage choices........water all the time really sucks........
any ideas???

decaf icetea is good - I use decaf teabags and make suntea.... I hate water too, and living in Vegas, I have to carry it with me all the time in the summer. Warm water is worse, trust me! Where online can I get the ICN Restroom card - that is so neat, I was wondering why they dont have a "disabilty" line pass for bathrooms!!

Great, thanks! I already ordered one. Has anyone actually used one of these? And has it worked? I wonder how people react to it - you know how mean women in line for the bathroom can get if you get to go ahead of them - would I need to show all of them the card:confused: Not all places have an attendant at the door.

I find that if a eat a meal (IC friendly meal) and drink white wine, I'm fine. Also for frozen drinks, I use a lot of crushed ice.
