I have been diagnosed (reluctantly) with IC after every other test that they could give me. I guess it's mild, but I've been in constant pain for 3 months. I've had nausea off and on for the past month and 1/2. Is this normal for IC? They sent me to a psychiatrist because they don't know what to do with me. I've gone from an independent, strong woman to a wimpy, nervous woman who can't sleep. I take ambien and norco for the pain. Do these hurt my bladder more? Sorry so many questions but I feel like I'm going bozo. Thanks for any help from anyone. Julieanne

You sound like me and I am still waiting for dx. I hope they gave you some meds to keep you comfortable. From what Ihear, most people respond to one treatment but it will take time to find the right one. I wish you luck and quick relief. Take care, as they say, stress makes it worse. The nausea could be from stress. I know I get nauseated from stress. Take care

Hi... I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time right now. IC is a difficult thing to deal with, that's for sure, and it takes a long time to come to terms with it and find treatments that work for you.

Regarding nausea, I have periods where I get pretty nauseated too, and they often coincide with the times when my IC flares up. I also have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) so I have diarrhea and other gastro problems as a result. So yes, I think gastro problems including nausea are associated with IC in some people.

Stress can also cause you to feel nauseated, so relaxation can sometimes help (I know... easier said than done... recently I was told by a doctor that I was so wound up he was going to have to put me on disability leave from work to MAKE me relax if I didn't calm down).

As for your meds, I've seen people post about those, so maybe they'll have answers for you...

and :welcome: to the ICN!

welcome to the icn family sorry about all your pain.
I have taking norco's 10.325 they really helped my pain at first when other meds was making me sick. try taking them on a full stomach I do all my medicine this way if not i will be sick
on but this may be the problem. I stayed sick alot at first after i was dx come to find out i had a bad urine infection and kidney infection. and had to change some of my meds.
maybe trying to take one med at a time like take one at 8 am then wait until ten am to see if your sick then take the next one.
make sure you have a full stomach.
also ask your doctor for some type of meds to keep you from being sick.

I feel like it must be one of your medicine I stayed that way for mths and lost all type of weight Please figure out which one is causeing it if its the medicine at all.
Elimron also done me that way.

sending you hugs and prayers
Rhonda

Hello, Julieanne...Welcome to the ICN.

I take Ambien and do not notice any bladder upset from it.

You said that you have been in pain for 3 months. I know that when I am in pain, not just the pain of IC, my stomach gets very upset. If I get extremely nervous, my stomach reacts. :(

Rhonda gave you very good advice about how to take meds. Remember, though, there are some meds that have to be taken on a full stomach, some meds have to be taken on an empty stomach and some meds cannot be taken with certain foods or drink. The best thing is to ask your doctor or pharmacist about it. :)

Hi Julieanne and welcome, I take Ambien, and have had no problems with it. Rhonda gave you some good information, I know with one of my meds, it has to be taken with food. It all takes a while to find out what works and what does not. I know I could not take Elmiron, it made me worse, also Vicoden and Percoset make me violently ill, we all vary so with our meds. Hope that you find out what is making you nauseous. Let us know how you are doing, hugs Iris. :hi:

Pain medications make me nauseated. So far we haven't been able to find any that don't. The way we resolved the problem was for me to take a 25 mg phenergan tablet with the pain med. I really helps relieve the nausea.

I have also had vertigo (labrynthitis), for which my doctor ordered meclizine, which helps with nausea and is over the counter.

You might want to ask your doctor if your nausea could be medication related.

Sending healing thoughts,
Donna

I find that the pain itself causes my to get sick to my stomach. If I can't control the pain, I get nauseated.

I have a friend, who, like Donna get's sick with pain medication. She has Cancer, and is on pain medication all the time. She takes Phenergan with her pain meds, also.

Good Luck,

Thank you so much for everyone who responded to me. I don't feel so alone now. I have one other question for everyone if it's not too much to ask...Every once in awhile my hands, arms, face and sometimes my face go totally numb. It's very scary. My arms froze so hard in the hospitial they could hardly get the IV in. Could this be from nerves or something? I think my husband is going to throw me out the window soon. They never found out what that was. It hadn't come back since I left the hospital 2 weeks ago. Anyways, I'll try to choke food down with my medicine. I wish I wasn't so med-sensitive. Thanks again to everyone. It feels good to know you're all out there. Love, Julieanne

Im not sure about your body freezing up like that but keep on top of that it sous like it could be seriouse. I take ALOT of pills to keep my Ic under some control and they case me nausua or hart burn all the time, I was put on Zantac and now Tgament 300 2x aday, it helps.

At first I needed sleeping meds too, have they tried elavil or another tricylic antidepresant (start at a very low dose! so your bady can adjust, you may not need much at all) they can block the pain and make you sleepy, I have a prscritpton for sleeping meds and take it as needed but I also take 50mg of Atarax (antihistamine) to control burning and urgency and it makes me sleepy, I tae this in the evening so that by bed time I feel drowsy.

Why did you MD'ssend you to a shrink? IC can cause a lot of problems-like stomach and bowel problems and fatigue from not being able to sleep and it can be very very painful for some. You are not crazy I thin IC is a bit crazy, it justhas so many aspects and it gets cofuing keeping track of evrthing. Are you keeping a voiding/pain book that mayhelp you see some pattern within th Chaos of IC.

Good Luck. READ EVERYTHING yo can about IC, My md kind of waits till I sayI want to try something, he does not push one treatment over another.:hi:

as far as the numbness goes i havent never had it any where but my fingers after talking to the doctor about it they decided it was my nerves.
I have only had this to happen a few times So to tell you the truth that is the only thing i can think of i don't think its ic related.
sending you hugs and prayers
Rhonda

That sounds like something you might need to see a neurologist for.

It is hard to figure out what is what when so much is going on. I have off and on diarrea and nausea. I also have GURD so that doesn't help either. I have different parts of my body go numb off and on with a host of other symptoms. I have nerve pains that shoot through my body at different times. Stress is a HUGE trigger for me. If I'm stressing out my back litterally clenches up and feels like it is in knots and I feel like I can't breath well or move. I'm still going through testing but they believe it is fibromyalgia or nerve damage in my back from a really bad fall I had could be contributing to the leg pains. I would ask your doctor. Hopefully it won't come back. I hope you are feeling better soon. Take care - Chris :butterfly

Rhonda,

I don't really know how to respond directly to you. I do want to let you know that my nausea is still with me. I wake up in the morning with it. It does get better later in the day. I also want to say that the pain has always been on my left side. It has never left no matter how careful I am about eating things. Is this normal?

If I'm not doing this right and everybody is reading this responce, or if I need to do something different, please let me know.
Thanks again, Julie

:welcome: TO ICN JulieAnne!!
I am sorry you have IC and are having such a hard time. The best thing you can do is keep a careful journal of your med schedule, diet, void times and any symptoms you are experiencing. Then discuss it with your doctor. Every one of us is so different and it is so very important for you to help your doctor understand how IC effects you and then he can help you understand it too. Knowledge is POWER!! The ICN patient handbook explains pretty much everything you need to know. Read it, it will help!!! Let us know if you have questions, someone here will know the answer or at least where to get the answer!!

It sounds like you are very stressed out. Definitely talk to your doctor about that. Stress really makes your bladder worse. If it is so strong it is giving you numbness, you know it has to be effecting your bladder too. Your doctor should be able to help you with that.

If you want to talk to someone privately, you can click on the "pm" box (stands for private message) at the bottom of that person's post. Then type your note and send it. It is sent to their mailbox and is not posted on the boards. You will see under your name on the top of the Message Board screen that you have messages in your box when they respond. To get them, you click on "user cp" (control panel) and then select "private messages" on the far right. It is a good way to get to know people on ICN.

GOOD LUCK!!

You may ask your doc to give you some regalan (sp) It is specifically for nausea and feeling icky, especially due to meds. I take it when I have a migraine coming to heed off the vomitting and dizziness. also prevents bad reactions to the meds I gotta take for the stupid headaches. Sometimes the IC makes me sick, interms of meds.

Good Luck...Don't let it get to you ok.../ You'll have up and down days

:)
