View Full Version : Stray Dog
Well, we picked up a stray dog, and made him ours. I took him to the vet on Friday. It was a whopping $200. Well, he has heart worms, which is going to cost a fortune. If he makes it through the heart worm treatment, he's going to need surgery on his hip. I am such a big sucker! My daughter has decided this dog is her brother. What am I supposed to do? Let him die? I don't think so! This is the sweetest dog in the world!

AWW, I know how expensive that gets....and the worry if the pet will make it....I hope things turn out ok...especially with your daughter loving the dog already. I bet you will all be a healthier family in the near future.:dogrun: :dogrun: :dogrun:

I have another dog, who I consider my child! LOL! But, I have to admit, this guys is absolutely wonderful! he has a heart of gold. He wasn't even scared at the vet. The Vet made a joke, and said " Now, don't be nervous" The dog was so laid back. He had his chin between his front two paws, just laying on the table.

Sounds like a really nice dog. Also sounds like you could be a lost child of mine! One of our daughters started feeding a stray dog --- she said they absolutely were not going to keep him so they didn't give him a name --- just called him "Doggie" --- Doggie was with them for about 15 years.
Hugs,
Donna
Donna, that's pretty funny about Doggie!
I'm the worlds worst about bringing home strays! Usually, they end up costing way more than some full bred animal!
I have a real soft spot for animals

My husband and I had a stray dog show up one time. He was so thin, his ribs were showing. We fed him...boy, was he thankful. He was all over us. I told my husband that I did not want to give him a name because then I would own him. He was just a pup but HUGE. My husband could not resist and named him Pitiful because that was what he looked like...pitiful. He hung around for a while and then went on his way. I guess he didn't like the name. :D

I'm so glad you gave him a home! You sound just like me! I have 8 cats & a ferret!:cat: I also couldn't just let them die! It's like they all knew which porch to come to. All the other cats say go there, she'll feed you & give you a home!LOL I'm so glad to see others like me. How did you find it? Did it come in your yard? I couldn't imagine life w/out my babies! Especially since i've been sick, all my cats can do some kind of trick! Obviously, I'm a little BORED!!!:hi:

That's relly nice that you did that. It really bugs me when people just kick their pets out, or drop them off on the side of the road. My parents adopted two strays when I was little,, and now they have two greyhounds they adopted. I'm glad someone else has as much compassion. :)
He was dumped on the side of the road. I picked him up. I opened my van door and said, if he get's in, I'll take him home. He jumped right in. He had been there awhile. People in the surrounding area said he had been there for quite awhile. The dog appeared to be waiting on his owner. He was just looking around. He watched every car that passed by. He has a heart of gold! He is going to be well worth the money! People think I'm crazy. I've been known to go without myself, to take the animals to the vet!

Hi Blue,
I think you have a doggie angel there. Also, a purebred would cost more upfront than your vet bills. I hope he gets well for you.

That is so wonderful. What a big heart you have and bless you for it! I recently got three kittens. Thier mother was hit by a car. The woman I got them from takes strays in all the time too. She had10 kittens there she was trying to find homes for. I have a dog and three cats and now I have 6! I love them and it is so worth it. If that dog could talk he'd show you a world of gratitude for taking him in. Take care - Chris :dogrun:

That's so cool that he jumped right in your van. My boyfriend says animals can sense people, & usually know who is good & who is bad. I hate it when people just dump off their animals like that!!:cussing: You don't just dump people off on the side of the road. Why do they do that to animals? It really makes me cry, when I see a animal dead on the side of the road or see something like that on the news. People are so cruel! I love animals so much, I feed the stray cats, birds, squirrels, racoons. Just old bread but I love it. I try 2 pickup animals if I see them in hte road on a slow street. I call the cops when I see an animal on the highway, they must hate me! Who cares! animals can't speak for themselves, I'm so glad you gave that dog a home. I hope u have fun with him!:dogrun: Let us know his name!
So far we call him Brother !
