After I had my first cysto on Tuesday my Doctor gave me a three day supply of Sulfamethox something-or-other pills. They were to prevent a UTI.
Anyways, This morning I woke up with my face covered in hives. Could it be from the pills? It is listed as a side affect but I finished the last pills on Friday morning.
Do you have to take antibiotics right after every cysto?

Yes, it is possible to develop an allergy to an antibiotic. Be very sure to tell your doctor about your reaction and ask specifically which antibiotics you need to avoid in the future. I can't stress too strongly how important this can be. If you take the same antibiotic in the future, you could have an extremely serious reaction.
Sending healing thoughts,
Donna
Yes, it is possible. I've developed many allergies to antibiotics as an adult. In fact, I wear a medic alert bracelet with them listed because it's such a standard procedure to give antibiotics with surgery. My doctor said he always gives antibiotics with cystoscopies (even in-office ones) to prevent infection.
Don't worry though. I'm allergic to 5 antibiotic classes and they've never had trouble finding me another one to take.
(By the way, sulfa allergies are very common).

Thank you! I still have hives today. But I guess it could be worse. I'll be sure to tell my Doctor.

Sulpha gives me hives and blisters--including places where you don't want to have them!
Hi I went through the same problem years ago with sulfa drugs, an experience I never want to repeat. I also wear a medic alert bracelet with the drugs I cannot tolerate on it.Take care and a hug Iris. hi hat
