Does anyone know anything or have experience with local tap water and IC? An alternative therapist suggested to me many years ago that the level of minerals, etc. in my drinking water could be triggering IC flares. I kind of blew it off because, well, I don't know why I did. But now I'm wondering if filtering my drinking water could help my IC. I welcome any insight, comments, ideas, etc., etc. Thanks for being here!

Tap water was causing me to flare. Filtering didn't help me at all. I started drinking spring water, and saw an improvement in my pain.

Lately I've been drinking distilled water, which for me, helps.

I have been drinking spring water for many years!
I brought a sample of my water to the local pet shop many years ago ! They tested it and told me right away what was wrong with the water! We were having a problem with our fish! I started drinking spring water that day hi

I seem to do better with filtered water. We have spring water at work, and it irritates my bladder.

I am on Atkins and was drinking the Sam's choice water for the potassium...until I found out here that potassium is an irritant. I didn't realize that what I thought was doing me good was actually bad for me!

Potassium is an absolutely necessary nutrient to maintain health.

I think some ICers are afraid of it because the potassium sensitivity test, when potassium is placed directly in the bladder and causes pain. I think of it as I would salt. If you have a scratch or cut and it gets salt in it, it hurts --- but if you eat the salt, it doesn't hurt the scratch. Potassium ingested and digested, does not have the same effect on the bladder as it does when instilled.

You'll find information on this in the Patient Handbook in the vitamin section.

Donna

I have been drinking spring water, Spring water comes naturally from the springs here in hot springs arkansas and it's so hot. I get a bunch of jugs and get water from down town, Lots of people from all over the world come here with they're jugs and get spring water, It's alot better than tap water.

My tap water contains high levels of chlorine... you can smell it when you go to drink it, I cannot drink it at all.....
Where can you get it tested at free of charge....

Sorry, I don't know how to get your water tested. But I read today that if you let your tap water run at least 2 minutes before use, a significant amount of the chlorine, etc. will flush out of the pipes. I don't know how useful this is, but it's worth a try.

we have both here well water and city water we only use the well water for like washing the car and things like that now because it had so much iron in it it would even turn our clothes colors all our whites would have a yellow tint to it.
so we got city water i can't drink that either unless i have a filter on it then it seems fine.
i also like spring water. my bladder seems to be able to handle all spring water that i have tried even the flavor water.

Rachel: I think letting the water run for a few minutes would work on either city or well water because the chlorine evaporates into the air. So I'm told. Sesheta

I know that you can buy a water testing kits from Home Depot and Lowes, I hope that helps.

I find I can't tolerate tap water even with a pure filter. I use bottled water for drinking and cooking.

Hi there,
if I drink tap water I am flared up in 24 hrs. For me it is the chlorine in the water. I live in Melbourne Aust and only drink Nobles water which is totally pure. I have tried other brands of water but this is the only one that works for me. Alot of bottled water still has chlorine , minerals etc even though they claim to be relatively pure water.
Not drinking tap water, and just drinking Nobles, was the first thing that aided my symptoms. I am sure you will notice a difference for the better after you do this for a couple of days.

ps rain water was OK for me too!!
