Hi all,

I know this isn't about Elmiron, but there is no Cardura board!

OK - when I went in for biofeedback yesterday, I saw a very interesting little piece of paper that listed what all the different medicines do (relax the bladder muscle etc.) Don't ask me to tell you what it said!:)

Here is what caught my eye - the one thing that gave me an incredibly bad flare one night was Pseudophedrine (Sudafed). Now sudafed is supposed to stimulate some muscle "down there" (I forget which one). I saw that Cardura is supposed to relax that muscle.

Other part of the story - my sister was diagnosed with "urethral syndrome" a few years back. She said her doctor put her on Cardura for a year and it went away.

SO here's my question - since my IC is very mild, usually involving frequency only, does anyone think that maybe what I have is not IC? I do know that alcohol also flares me. Has anyone ever heard of or tried Cardura? Of course it would be great if I could be "cured!"

Thanks,

priny

I took cardura for high blood pressure several years back. I stopped taking it because of stress incontinence. It used to be given exclusively for blood pressure, but it was found that one of its side effects was relaxing the urinary muscles to allow easier urination. Now it's used primarily for people who suffer from urinary retention.

Cardura was the first medication I was put on. It helped with the pain a lot, but didn't really help the urgency/frequency. In fact, I was told that it can increase frequency because it relaxes those muscles. Hope this helps.

My dr mentioned urethrl syndrom to me too but I have no burning, I just have pressure. What is it? Were youoficcialy diagnosed with IC? That would be great if it worked for you. I am hoping it does.
