I have to say a HUGE thank you to the nice person on these boards (I can't find the original post I read, but I hope the person will see this note and know I am talking about her!) who talked about using prelief with Tylenol to stop bladder pain.

For the first time, I realized - hey maybe my problems with Elavil, Pamelor, and other tricyclics/antidepressants/pills was not due to a reaction to the med itself, but to the fillers - and not an allergic reaction (I tried antihistamines before) but to the ACID!!!!

So I got out the old Pamelor that I had such problems with. Even took a double dose (it's a real small dose, the target dose will end up being like 3 pills or more), took it with 4 tablets of prelief (making extra sure) and boy oh boy, relief all day today with no pain!

Before, by now, I'd be going crazy with bladder pain which I guess must have been from some kind of acid in the filler in the pills.

This means, I probably hopefully will not need to go to the pain clinic - I can manage on Pamelor and Prelief!

I am so relieved. I am scared this will prove to be a fluke, that it's too good to be true, but for now I am thinking this is so wonderful!

Maybe my bladder is just supersensitive to any acid, and so unlike some other IC'ers who maybe can tolerate meds with no prelief, I HAVE to take the prelief with them to tolerate them.

Oh my goodness, I wonder why on earth I didn't realize before that pills could be acidic? Just never occured to me. Or my uro.

I will have to tell him about this!

Anyway, thank you so much! I feel much better about using Pamelor, instead of narcotics, it's just...all around easier for me I guess.

Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

Blessings, Lori

I guess my relief was short-lived and premature.

About 2 in the morning last night I woke and my bladder was in agony.

I guess I can't take these tricyclics no matter what tricks I try.

I'm not the only one with this reaction of increased bladder pain to tricyclics, I see a couple other stories like mine under the antidepressants message boards, but it's a rare reaction.

My uro thinks I'm lying or imagining things.

I hate having a disease where there is so much ignorance among the very doctors who are supposed to help us.

Blessings, Lori
