Can anyone tell me why I keep getting thrush?? I have it after antibiotics, and can understand that, but recently, have been getting it for no reason at all (at least that I know of):bonk: I cannot believe how sore my mouth gets with thrush...I don't know what is worse, thrush, or a nasty yeast infection!:yikes: Both are yucky! I would just like to know why I get it w/out even taking antibiotics! Thanks, Sherig:kiss:

I don't know why you keep getting it... but I do know how awful it is to have!! Lots of things can cause it... antibiotics, steroid use, immune suppression, stress... etc.

I use inhaled steroids for controlling my asthma, which reduces the immune response in the mouth and throat... so I am prone to thrush. I usually get it after antibiotics, and sometimes seemingly out of the blue because of this. Back in April I had it nearly constantly. My asthma doc prescribed Nystatin oral solution to gargle and swallow-- it was disgusting, and took forever to work, and then the thrush came back a week later anyhow. ARRRGH. Finally, I freaked out about it in my uro's office when he gave me a Levaquin to take after a DMSO... i.e., "NOOOO... no more antibiotics!! The thrush is killing me." And I explained I'd also had a few vaginal yeast infections too...and once there was even yeast in my bladder!!!!

My uro prescribed a WEEK of Diflucan... he said sometimes you have to just blast the yeast and break the cycle with a huge amount of the drug. He was right. I felt better after 2 doses, but kept taking it... and I haven't seen any yeast since, even after I took a couple more antibiotic pills.

I hope you find relief...

I thought I always had a thrush ....than doc looked and surprise to me said something else this time. Didn't have a good sollution though.....but maybe have doc look to be sure if this is new having it without antibiotic....maybe that isn't what it is. Anyway I know how uncomfortable they are.....no matter what it is.
((((((((((((hugs))))))))) I have had some luck with yeast infections with AZO lately. Still not perfect but surprissing improvement.

Hope you feel better soon....hopefully a doc can help you.

Thanks girls! Bingo...steroid use! I didn't know that could cause thrush, but I am sure that must be it. I also use steroid inhalers, and have just finished a round of oral steroids...Yuk:dizzy: Thanks for your help and advice! You are both  Wishing you the best!!! Sheri G

This is interesting to me Sheri. I have also always had thrush (at least since I was 12). I tried several things to get rid of it, but have now just accepted it. I might try the week round of Diflucan. Haven't done that yet.
Anyways - I wonder how many other IC patients go through this all the time because of the drugs we have to take. Am glad you figured out what was causing it. Hope you can get rid of it!

I think a week of Diflucan may help. Sometimes I think the big problem is just getting it completly gone....once it truly is gone it is a lot easier to keep it away.
