I was DXed with IC by Dr. ********* in North Little Rock, located in the Springhill Medical Plaza. He told me Elmiron would help the pain associated with IC but the pain will never go away. He refuses to prescribe pain medicine (common in AR) and will NOT refer to a pain management specialist. He believes pain medication is not beneficial to patients with IC. My family doctor told me that he's an "old school" doctor that's not up-to-date on new treatments. I would not recommend him to anyone! When he diagnosed me, he didn't tell me anything about IC- he just handed me a pamphlet and told me to go to www.icnetwork.org and I'd find all the information I'd need. My family doctor has since referred me to Dr. John Brizzolara at Arkansas Urology in Little Rock. He's supposed to be on the "leading edge" in treating IC. Dr. Brizzolara comes HIGHLY recommended from several people, including my family doctor, several nurses and doctors from both Baptist Springhill ER & St. Vincent's North ER, and several patients. I will update on how he is.
I am sorry you did not get what you need but it sounds like you have another option. I sure hope your next Dr. works out better.

Hello Southern Belle:hi:
Your going thru the same thing I am, my uro does not believe in pain meds as well she thinks IC patients dont need them since the pain never goes away anyway:loco:ummmmmmmmmm if the pain doesnt go away why not give us something that will atleast take the edge off and make us comfortable during our daily lives. I guess we are supposed to suffer until the meds they do give us work which take time months and months time. I hope you have better luck with your next uro :)

Thanks Dawn, and I hope you can get some relief! Have you asked your urologist or family physician for a referral to a pain management specialist? I'm not sure if you're local to Little Rock, but if you are, I posted a thread with some contact info for a pain management specialist here. Good luck to you!

I have a referral to mental health lol from my family doc I guess that was all she could do since the uro didntt give her approval for pain management however I will be talking to the uro soon and I will ask her. I am in Okinawa Japan for another 3 months then to SD California :)
