Hi All,
I just went in today for my 8th cocktail instillation. For some reason it hurt so bad and I am in so much pain. Do any of you who have these things ever take any kind of pain medication afterwards? I called my doctor back and told the nurse who did the actual procedure what was up and she was adament that she was not going to call me in any kind of pain killer. She said drink lots of water and take Tylenol. Obviously she has not got IC or she would know that Tylenol is a joke when it comes to this amount of pain. I feel like I am hitting a brick wall, here.:headbang:

I know they fear us getting hooked on pain killers but why do they insist that we can live with this pain? I am so ******. I have to go to my daughters graduation tomorrow and I can hardly sit still. I seem to find that only pacing about and keeping my mind occupied at all times helps or I go into a complete anxiety attack. I just took 3mg of Xanax, hoping it will knock me out and not even a yawn. It's going to be another long night. How can I convince these doctors that I need real pain killers? Please if anyone can explain to me what they told their doctor to get them some help. I am almost at the point where the Enon bridge is looking mightly tempting again.

Please help me.

I am very sorry you are in pain. Has the doctor refused pain meds as well as the nurse. Maybe asking for the doctor to call you back. Have you talked to your MD about your symptoms not sure if they can help but it couldnot hurt to let them know how your feeling. If all your doctor are not willing to help then maybe changing doctor would be a option. You should not have to be in pain and you have a right to have it treated. Can you ask to see a pain specialist ? Please try to give your doctors a call again,
Kelly:pray:  :grouphug:

HI,
Thanks so much for your post. My doctor who is treating my IC will not prescribe any pain medication either. Do you think if I went to my primary care doctor and told him that I need a referral to a pain management program he may do it? I didn't know if once you are being treated for IC if you could go back to your PC for help.

I think I will call him tomorrow and leave a message. Maybe he can suggest someone. If not, I will ask my shrink, who I see once a month and maybe he will do it. He knows I get suicidal. I'm beginning to feel like all I am to the medical industry is someone with really good medical insurance. I feel like a number.:(

The same thing happen to me last fall. I did a series of six and was determined to make it to the end just to make sure they did not work. They got more and more painful with each one. The last one was incredibly painful. I was screaming in pain. My husband did not know what to do for me. Urinating was like going acid. I could not stay still the pain was so bad. I will never do that again. I was on percocet at the time but even two of those did not touch this pain. I am sorry you don't have acces to anything for the pain. I can't imagine going through it with no pain meds.

My uro's physicians assistant has been pretty good about prescribing pain meds. But she makes lots of mistakes - Since January she has forgetten to sign the presciption(twice), wrote them for a dose that the narcotic does not come in, and when I asked her for oxycodone instead of percocet (tylenol gives me migraines)she said that there was no such thing. That's when I decided that I needed a pain specialist. My GP referred me to a great one. So I guess I got lucky.

Have you tried a pain specialist? Sorry you are so uncomfortable.

HI Jeni,
Thanks for the reply. I'm so sorry that you had to go through all that pain. Two percocets and still pain, that is awful. I had them one time when I had surgery and they seemed wonderful to me. I would love to have some to get me through the really rotton days.

I work in a factory, Philip Morris, and I am a high speed machine operator and it is very stressful work. I have 26 years seniority and am so afraid I am going to lose my job messing with this stuff. I try to work as much as I can. I have to, or they will fire me, but the pain gets so bad sometimes that I just go in the bathroom stall and cry for a bit, then return to my machine all puffy eyed and still in pain and then my stupid IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) will kick in and when I get that it sends me into an even worse IC flare. It's like a terrible train track where the train just goes round and round and round and never gets anywhere.

I am so tired.

If you have a uro who is not willing to prescribe pain medications even on short term basis, I think a second opinion would be a reasonable option for you. My uro does prescribe pain medications for me when I need them. When I first was doing DMSO instillations, he was willing to order pain meds for me.

Sending warm healing thoughts,
Donna

Many uros prescribe pain meds & some recommend taking them before an instill. Please ask your PC to prescribe some or the shrink, if he/she is an MD. A pain clinic is a wonderful way to get help, so many have had great results. You hang in there & in a little while you will look back on this & know that you have come a long way towards improvement. Hugs, Kathi
I'm available when ever you need me, just e mail me

I would ask the primary for medicaiton for tomorrow so you can go to the graduation with pain meds. You don't want to be in pain for this. If they do not want to give you any ask for a referral for a pain management specialist. If they are ok with that ask if you can have something to hold you over until you can see that specialist.
