are instillations bad for intercourse?

Hello everyone, I am a newbie in these discussion boards. Got diagnosed with IC in dec. and started Elmiron at the beginning of Feb. I decided also to give a try to the DSMO, thinking that more approaches combined would increase my chances of getting better. During and after the application I felt quite sore for about one hour, and then the soreness became more of a discomfort. The next morning I felt pretty good and, being Valentine's day, I had intercourse. Well, I had one of the worst pains I have ever experienced, and felt sore all day. Worse than my typical IC pain in those circumstances. Is it a normal reaction after the instillation?
I have to say that the next day I felt pretty good and also had some spicy foods, so I do think the DSMO helped. I am just trying to figure out if I have to give up on intercourse during the treatment.Sorry for posting such a long message!

welcome to the icn board. sorry you have ic. but for dmso treatments i do them at home and have no trouble of having intercourse with my husband it may be that your bladder is still really sore and some healing time.

My bladder's behavior is VERY strange and unpredictable after DMSO. I think to be on the safe side, it is a good idea to treat it very gently even if you feel pretty good after a treatment.

I noticed you mentioned that after the DMSO treatments your pain during intercourse subsided do you think that was because of the treatments or of other methods. I have had six injections and my doctor said I could go in for more but I dont know if I should spend money on it if its not really the right thing to do for pain during sex. I also try hard to remember to take the elmiron but I have the worse time remembering...does that really have success?-Briar Rose

so do you not recomend DMSO I dont want to do any more damage I just want to get away with the painful intercourse...its causing me so much havoc to my mental health
