Has anyone had hernia surgery that has made their IC flare ? My wife is going to have hernia surgery next week and we just wanted to see if anyone could relate.

No hernia surgery here. But, I would imagine that the stress of any surgery might kick off a flare. Good luck to her, I'm sure the surgery will go fine. Smiles, Kathi

I'm just the opposite. Any time I have a surgery for anything else, the anesthesia seems to ease my IC symptoms for several weeks.
I hope the hernia surgery goes well.
Warm hugs,

I had umbilicial hernia repair not to long ago and my IC was no better no worse. Best wishes and good luck,
Kelly
I had a hernia repair about a year and a half ago. I didn't know I had IC then. It was the worst pain in my life. I thought it would be a breeze, since I had a hysterctomy already. Well, the pain was horrible. There was an intense burning down my right leg. My husband literally, had to carry me to the toilet. If I took a step, the pain was so sharp, intense, and burning that I couldn't do it. It was so humiliating! So, be a good man, and be prepared to take good care of your wife. I was given the option to stay in the hospital, or go home. I chose to go home. I was still under anesthesia and felt fine. The real pain hit 3 days later. I know someone else, who on the 3rd day, the pain was worse for. So, be there for her, she'll need it! My hernia was in my lower right abdomin. I've forgotten what kind they call it.

I have what is called a hyciated(spelling?) hernia. I take prevacid every day so that I won't get heartburn during the day. Somedays though I go overboard and eat to much, too fast or too spicey and then I am paying the price! Whoa!
I hope that your wife's operation goes well and I trust that you will be there for her if she needs anything.
Lynn :)

I had surgery in Jan. I spent 3 days in the hospital. It won't be a cake walk. Mine was right above my pubic area going almost half way up to my belly button. It was from my previous surgery two yrs before...hysterectomy. Good luck and get plenty of rest. Make sure you tell the nurses you have IC....so they will not let your bladder stay full afterwards. I did flare....hope you don't but chances are you will ..so take care
