I was on Elavil, it turned me into a zombie, but I stopped taking it cold turkey and caused myself a world of problems. So i had to go back on it to ween off it, UGH (lesson learned) but now they have me on Paxil, 2mg. I feel much better-not having so many cravings and not sleeping all day. i like many others gained 30 pounds since my diagnoses about 7 months ago (on the Elavil). Mostly I think because of the sugar cravings and total lack of activity. I bought a tread mill and try to walk when I can makes me feel "normal". But, i wonder about antidepresants, can you ever stop taking them? How do you know if they are working? I still have constant pain despite mediatation/relaxation/Valium?ultram and Hydroxyzine. I am supposed to see a pain managment md? So have the anti depresants helped anyone????

I take Wellbutrin, but have been on Paxil, (made me tired) Remeron, Risperadal, Lithium (I'm bi polar) and Zoloft, which killed my sex drive completely. I also take Xanax for anxiety. I gained 60 pounds taking all this crap. Now I only take the Wellbutrin, Lithium and Xanax. I'm really not sure if they work or not. I am stil depressed and have been on them for almost 10 years. I will always be on Lithium for my manic depression. When I go off my meds I go crazy.
It's different for every person. It also takes a few months to get in your system. If you start to feel happier maybe they are working for you. I have had IC for 10 years and with the constant pain I just am never happy. My husband is no help. He doesn't understand the pain and thinks I am a whiner. He really ticks me off. I told him I would love to take battery acid and pour it down the end of his pee pee and see how happy he would feel:mad:
This message board helps alot. It's nice to just vent you frustrations with people who know what you are talking about. Most of the time I hear it's all in my head or why don't I just go pee if I have to. I want to smack a few people sometimes.
I hope your meds work for you. I have read that it has helped many. My Mom swears by Paxil and wouldn't be without it.
Good luck
