I went for another install this morning. I had to wait in a cold room for over a hour and very uncomfortable. This women walks in says hi I am a nurse here and I will be doing your install today. I am like ok . In this office your appointments are scheduled with certain people. I always have the same NP do my install anyway I am ok with but angry no explaination or apology for the long wait. She asks the same questions and I say yes pain yes kidney pain. She says she talked with my NP late last night and was told to do a different install upon my answers. I was aware this time maybe lidocaine instead of heparin. Before she did the install I clarified to be sure what it was. She said mostly lidocaine with a little heparin. I thought lidocaine numbs? Well I am telling it burned like crazy and I could not even hold it till be got off the elevator? This office is 45 minutes away from home and we stopped 4 times for potty breaks. The heparin installs I have been able to hold for a while at least a hour. The nurse said my urine looked fine but had blood in it. This is usual for me and has been checked with no none causes but gosh my kidney still hurts and it has been over a week. I go again Monday and hope my regular NP will be there so I can ask questions. They still did not get my other records so she has been unable to talk to the specialist she wanted too. She hoping by next week.

Kelly i'm so sorry it hurt you you poor thing bless your heart!(((((hugs)))))) I don't know about the lidocaine people says it numbs but i have never had it so i'm not sure hopefully someone else will be alone soon to help you. I take the Marcaine with my heparin.
if this is a numbing medicine maybe you may have another infection starting and they didn't do your urine today It could had happen since they made you wait so long. even when i went to the office for my treatments I never had to wait that long. that was so not right for a treatment.
Please let us know how you are.
sending you many hugs and prayers

Can you tell me why your kidney hurts? Mine hurts sometimes also and we don't know why.

When you go in, ask again what they used for the last instillation. It doesn't sound like heparin. Lidocaine should help with any pain from an instill. I have it instilled before DMSO.

Sending gentle hugs,

when i saw the urologist last week about starting instillations, he said he uses bicarbonate along with lidocaine and heparin because lidocaine has a lot of acid. perhaps you should ask about that.

i know i didn't ask enough questions tuesday when i talked to him. i hope the nurse who does my instillation monday is able to answer some. cuz i have tons now. lol.

((hugs))
hope you feel better soon.
