I wanted to post about my recent experience with this.

Last week, I went for a consultation with a very highly recommended Traditional Chinese Medical practictioner. After a lengthy consultation, he did some acupuncture on me. The acupuncture was quite effective, and it definitely brought my pain/burning down a notch. He then prescribed me some herbal medicine - tailor-made for my ailment. I took the first dose on Thursday. To my amazement and delight, I felt better, and my pain and discomfort signficantly diminished. I can't tell you how optimisitic I felt after months of appalling pain and lack of energy and clueless western doctors. So far so good. Then - yesterday I took the second dose of herbs. Within an hour, I felt terrible burning in my bladder, up my back. The diarrhoea started last night. The result, I have had 1.5 hours sleep last night, and am in an absolutely state, devestated, crying, in pain. I'm waiting for the clinic to open so I can ring this 'miracle worker' and hopefully get some explanation. Needless to say, I don't want to touch the stuff again. It's particularly devastating as this was one of my last hopes, the GP's/Urologists being particularly useless about ever controlling my symptoms.

scared, that sounds like a horrible experience! :( i'm so sorry, but i appreciate you sharing what happened here as i too am looking into alternatives like traditional chinese medicine. would you get the acupuncture again or did you feel like it too did more harm than good? hope you feel better soon! http://smilearchive.com/s/ups/layla_phoenix/heartpump.gif

It could be some of the herbs might have irritated your bladder and intestines. Sorry you had this horrid experience. I saw a chinese med doctor a long time ago, not for the IC, but for my other health issues. It did not help me at all for my other issues. I am sure it helps alot of people. Maybe the accupuncture is helping you, but the herbs are too much for you. Maybe you could continue with the accupuncture but stop doing the herbs. Hope you feel better soon.

Yup, I think that is what happened. I went for an emergency acupuncture treatment yesterday and it confirmed what I felt about the acupuncture: it's really helpful for me. He managed to get rid of my pain and symptoms within 20 minutes. It's the best pain-killer I've had yet, completely dials down my bladder pain as well as the horrible pressure and fullness. It also markedly helped my fatigue, which has been one of the worse symptoms for me. I think I'm going to use this as my main symptoms-relief therapy. The only problem is that I'm going to need it several times a week so I can function!!

As for the herbs - I'm not going to risk that again. The only problem is that I need some pain relief in between the acupuncture. Am currently trialling Tramadol, so will let you know if this works or not...

All best,

I have not yet found a Vit C that does not bother my bladder. I even got one that was not from citrus, it was made from the casava root, but it still bothered my bladder. Everyone is different though, so maybe it will not bother you.

bell peppers
broccoli
kohlrabi
peas
brussel sprouts
sweet potatos

Read my signature :) Bladder is good most of the time now! Rarely feel it as long as I stick to the diet religiously.

Now to get rid of this damn yeast infection caused by fertility herbal.... :(
