View Full Version : antibiotic after sex?
i'm wondering if i should ask my urologist for an antibiotic to take after sex.
i feel like i do EVERYTHING possible not to get a uti, but i still get one. :headbang:
i am so stressed out about the possibility of getting another uti after sex that i'm to the point where i'd just rather not have sex at all. EVER. :shake:
of course i really do want to, but i just want to cry thinking about getting another uti. i HATE utis!! :cussing:
i've read there are other alternatives to PREVENTING utis like taking d-mannose, oil of oregano, garlic, goldenseal etc., but i'm overwhelmed and don't know which ones to take or if i should take antibiotics instead or both. :dizzy:
what should i do??
:help:

Wow, you sound like me. It got to a point where my hubby and I just avoid having actual intercourse. It just is not worth all the pain and agony I go through. The stress of it was just to much. Luckily my hubby is pretty understanding. I am sorry you are afflicted with this. Maybe they will come out with a vaccine or something that will prevent UTI's all together. That would be nice. Then we would just have to worry about the side effects of the vaccine! :)

Sounds like a reasonable request to me, I have read others do this.

I used to get UTI's after sex without fail. I also did everything I possibly could to avoid them, and nothing worked.
I now take a dose of Macrobid after every single time I have sex. I haven't had a UTI since I started doing this... 3 years! :)

My gyno gave me macrobid to take after sex. (Also, I pee within half an hour after sex. And if possible, take a shower). If I am still nervous about getting a UTI, I take another macrobid 12 hours after the first one. You can get some probiotics or eat some yogurt with live cultures, so that you still have lots of healthy bacteria in your intestinal tract.
I was getting kidney infections because of utis that I didn't realize I had (since it hurt to pee anyway). You can also tell your partner to clean his penis beforehand (not that that'll solve it, but will lessen the amount of bacteria).

I hate taking antibiotics, but I will occassionally take one after sex if I'm feeling nervous. I've never directly attributed my UTIs to sex though, so who really knows. If you are getting a UTI every time you have sex, I'm sure your doc would be willing to give you an antibiotic to take. I would in your shoes!
well, i went to see a new uro today, and he gave me 100mg of macrobid to take after sex.
i'm not even having sex right now so i'm not taking them yet, but i don't like the idea of taking antibiotics all the time. i mean, when i have a partner i'm pretty active haha...so that's 4 or 5 times a week i'm taking antibiotics. isn't that bad??
i've never tried d-mannose, but after reading some threads on that and doing some online research i think i should try that first. long-term antibiotics just scare me.
