I was given Opana about 3 years ago for my IC pain. I have to admit that it really didnt do much for me. I was taking oxycodone before the Opana. I didn't notice a difference in the two so instead of taking the Opana we kept me taking the oxycodone.

Hydromorphone [Opana] was one of the first pain medications they tried on me.
I had a problem with Morphine causing retention, but was told that this medication was different in chemical make-up. Not only did it make me retain, just as it's namesake did, it did not help my pain level much at all, and after 3 days, I gave up on the medication.
Opana is used to treat "moderate" pain, and that may not be enough for some with severe IC and other conditions.

Opana is actually oxymorphone (dilaudid is hydromorphone). Close but not the same drug. Both are very powerful pain relievers!

I'm sorry for posting the wrong generic name for Opana. Thank you for correcting me!
Gosh, I feel silly. I'd make a terrible PharmD
