Apologies if this is the incorrect thread to post this in.
Last month, after talking to my doc, I decided to stop taking BC pills (Yasmin) and see what happened. Well, now four days before my period starts, I'm thinking this was not a good idea. I'm definitely not feeling as well as I did on the pill.
I know this has been addressed before, but what pill do you use or would recommend? There's been a lot of negative press about Yasmin lately, so I'm considering trying another one.
Thanks!

Hello! I am not show about whether this is in the correct place or not either, but I figured I would post my response anyways.
I initially went on birth control pills because I was athletic and still experienced extremely heavy bleeding and pain in the region. I tried a lot of birth control pills from when I started my cycles. First I was on Yaz, and then Novia. Several pills between that I cannot think of the names right now. In 2009, my gynecologist suggested me to get an IUD which would slow the bleeding down considerably. After research, I decided to give it a go.
The Mirena IUD is what I am on now. It is just inserted and then you have it for 5 years. (If you don't like it you can get it taken out whenever by a primary Dr or Gyno.) It helped a lot! Sometimes I spot, and soemtimes I don't even bleed. I still experience tenderness in my breasts, but that is normal with any cycle. I also think this helps with my IC because I'm not bleeding and therefore I am not irritated down there. >_> :dizzy:
The IUD also helped balance out my hormones better than any other form of the pill. However, it did not help with my acne (side note if this is an issue or not). Still, it is worth asking about it if you are having difficulty finding a method.
A lot of stories will say that 'it hurt' or experience pain during the placement. It is no different that having a catheter inserted. It is a quick pinch, a tight feeling, and then it's gone. Afterwards, I had some cramping, but a heat pad fixed it right up.
Hope this was helpful!

I also was on Yasmin and got off of it and switched to the mirena iud. I loved yasmin but got off before all of that controversy with heart problems etc. I went on mirena so that I wouldn't have periods at all. It did just that but I also had a little more facial hairgrowth. No one could notice but me though.. I also gained about 7 pounds on it. When the dr inserted it it was not that bad at all but it wasn't till about 30 minutes later I almost past out.. I don't know why but the dr said that some people feel lightheaded and others can't feel it at all. So that was my experience with it. If I had to try another birth control I think I would go back to yasmin. My gynecologist put my on Loestrin 24 but I never took it because if you search on this site most people have flares with it. I still have it my bathroom just in case.

I have been on loestrin for over 10 years now without any problem. I took
lo- loestrin upon advice of my doctor and I believe that is what caused the beginning of my problems. I have also been having lots of histamine and allergy issues this past year also. I think it a combination of both that put me where I am. PS I am back on loestrin for now.

I take yaz and love it. Anyone take the pill continuously to avoid flaring during your period? Thinking about it...

I take Loestrin 24 and have no problems. I switched from Ortho Tricyclen and have much shorter/lighter/less painful periods now.
