Help! I'm in a flare and hurt so badly. I normally hurt anyway but this is just awful. I've been trying to think back of what may have caused it.

Sat. I went out to dinner had steak, baked potato and plain shrimp..... I really treated myself!!!!!!!!!!!!! it had been so long.

Sunday went shopping w/ friend for about 1 and half hr. then ate at Chill's. Had chicken wrap with tons of french fries and ketcup. i concentrated on the fries, chicken had ceasar dressing I didn't like.

Yesterday a friend stopped by unexpectedly with bar b q lunch. I ate 1/4 pork sandwich with bbq sauce, potato salad and cole slaw.

okkkkkk, also started 5 day z pak on fri.,, where you take 2 on first day and 1 each day thereafter. Have ear and sinus infection.

It was so wonderful to get out. I've been in so much pain that I've been confined to my house and not allowed to drive due to heavy duty narcotics. So, being that I have no family nearby, I've had to ask friends to take me to hospital/dr. So far, it's been ok, but I hate, hate asking anyone for help. When I did drive I almost got into accident and knew the meds were affecting me like the dr. said and that I needed to get off the road.

So, getting back to flare up, I was starting to feel better so this just pissing me off. I know it could be a lot worse and I am thankful for that.

It could be a cobination of things ....hard to say. I so hate asking people for help too....and yet that is how I live as well (((((((((hugs))))))))) So Sorry you are hurting so badly....I know it is very hard. Julie....feel free to contact me if you need to vent...or if I can help in anyway ok?

Dear sleepy and katrina,

thanks so much. You're probably right on the food. I never go out and eat the same food at home so.............

I'm also going to call the pharmacist and see if zpack has stomach reactions.

but first i have to try to go back to sleep. I have no, none grocerys in house. nothing for real to eat so i was thinking when i wake up hrs. later if i haven't taken a lot of drugs i may go to grocery. well, maybe not.

I think it was the ketchup!

Ketchup and barbecue sauce both have tomato, which is a trigger for most IC patients --- the caesar dressing, potato salad (mayonnaise), and cole slaw (vinegar) are also potential triggers.

You might try taking several Tums and then drink a lot of water to help get your urine diluted and get rid of the irritants.

Thank you all for your replies. I agree with all of you. I spoke to the pharmacist this morning and he said the antibiotic may not agree with me. It must be that on top on the food bc I've been eating some ketchup once in a while and been ok. I guess I'll finish 2 more days on z pak. I can't drive so I'll just load up on my meds and sleep and lay around.

I had been feeling better, wow this is a real kick. this ic sucks and I sure don't wish it on anyone.

Drop the meat and very spicy food or fried food like fries. Thats a bad thing for bladder even if you are healthy.

A question: when you all talk about pain or flares: do you mean burning? Because I don't have pain in my bladder, I have burning. Or is burning a pain?

Im so confused.

I have both and it's bad. Ice pack helps and so does laying down.
Not fun, but I know the routine by now.

My bladder burns, it feels like it's on fire! This is how I describe it to people!

I also, have urethra pain. I can feel the urine coming down. It's not the same as a uti feeling.
