I received news Saturday that I was turned down again from SSDI. However, they did not obtain any of my recent records. I have been seeing a pain specialist for the last 4 months. I'm on Gabitrol at night and also starting taking Trazpdone 50mg. I could not get up till 10am and then couldn't funtion till 12:30. Isn't this important to know? I certainly couldn't get in a car to drive to work this morning. Now what really unnerves me is that I may have to wait 3 to 9 months for a hearing. I've already been at home for a year. In six months my cobra runs out. Then what? Who will cover me with a pre-existing condition?

If you don't have an attorney to help you deal with this, I suggest you get one. It's not unusual for people to be turned down two or three times.
When your COBRA runs out, you should be eligible for a continuation policy. It might not be the exact same coverage, but your IC will be covered.
Warm hugs,

Thanks Donna, I do have an attorney. Although I don't know what he did this last time. I have to meet with him @ 2 pm to sign papers so I request a meeting with a judge. there goes another year. Also, it was my understanding that I can get coverage but that IC won't be covered for at least one year because it is preexisting. Do you know something knew? Would love to hear about it. Thanks for reply.

SS is a big joke. Saw my attorney today and he feels I have a very good case. However, I may have to wait another 9 months till it is heard. In the meantime I am thinking of going to the hospital for a demerol injection. The thing holding me back is the $150. fee for the ER. I have taken 4 or 7.5 mg of percocet since 12:30pm. I can't get the pain to go away. I am getting frantic. Doesn't this stink? Thanks for sharing.

I was on a continuation policy for almost two years and it did cover my pre-existing IC.

Marcy,
Sorry you didn't get approved, hopefully you will next time. Are you happy with your attorney or do you think you need to try a new one? I'm just starting to go through this, what a night mare all the paperwork is. Best of luck to you, Julie:thumbsup:

Hi. My COBRA just expired. My insurance was a Blue Cross insurance. Blue Cross offers "group conversion" plans. They are at a lower rate than someone who is not coming from a group plan. There is no pre-existing condition problem, since I was covered on a group plan. I think there's something like 63 days from the time that someone's group COBRA expired that they would have to sign up with a new insurance to not have to worry about pre-existing conditions. I am choosing to have coverage from the day my COBRA expired, and I will pay retroactively. This information only applies to Blue Cross--your insurance's rules may be different.
Call your insurance's 800 number and talk to someone about it. They should know what your options are. It may be different if your insurance is different from Blue Cross. If you can't get a group conversion from them, you may be able to get it from Blue Cross. Find Blue Cross/Blue Shield's 800 number in your phone book or call information.
Good luck!!

I'm not sure if you are all aware of this. I just learned it myself...when you leave a job you have 18 months of COBRA benis...BUT when you leave due to disability, you get 3 years. Even Benefit specialists are often not aware of this ( mine is....) Make sure you get the COBRA benis you deserve...
Gotta go...night time drugs kicking in.....very very sleep and want to go nighty, night/

Happy 4th all. I have not had the surgery yet, but it could be as soon as within the next 2 weeks. I did find out that Coventry Health Insurance does have a conversioin policy. I was told the policy is not as good as the one I have but it would cost less. I'm going to call BC/BS and see what they have to say. My husband, Mike, is covered by them. I have a very good results with wearing a duragesic patch. I'm down to 1-2 percocets a day (7.5mg.):) I wish you all and you're family a very spcecial holiday.

I have lost my job Dec 2 2003 due to my burning in the urethra--I cant get one cause when I do--I have flare ups--I was thinking of trying to get ssdi--probably should kiss that goodbye--I feel bad enough --funny crack heads can get ss but we who are sick and have a dabilitating disease cant get help===now think about it, how do you expect me to work and be at a desk and BOOM the flare up begins--my goodness you cant even concentrate let alone try and "grin and bare it"--I was thinking of starting right out by getting a lawyer first thing--let them do the work for me--yea--its expencive but in the long run its worth it--but from I am reading looks like I dont have a chance in hell--I truly cant work--the pain and burning is to much--thanks Cathy

The good lawyers only work on a pay if you win type of thing.I would highly recommend at least talking to someone who specializes in social security cases. They can tell you what your chances are. You do have do some workk. I *****ed abot the pile of paper the gave me but they kept pointing me to an amendmendment in their contract "the client shall whine, complain or ***** about the amount of paper work they must compete." I thought that was funny and showed they were human.
Good luck..it is a slow process will not be complete overnight but you can do it if you perserver or give it a good shot.
