My name is Dori. I was told a month ago that my doc. thought I have I.C. I haven't got the tests done yet. He told me to go on the deit, and come back in a couple months. He did give a book about I.C. That was helpfull. I then begin to look on the web to find all I could about it. I'm so thankfull that the are sites about I.C. Yesterday I started hurting real bad, it knocked on my feet. My boyfriend found me on the kicken fool. I called my doc. and he is giving me Elmiron, but I can't get it tell tue,.. Dose Elmiron really help? can you guys tell me what you do for pain? I've already tried the water with backing soda, pian kills, heating pad & bath.
Thank you so much. I'm so happy to know i'm not alone Dori http://www.ic-network.com/forum/misc.php?action=getsmilies&s=#

:hi: and :welcome: to the icn. elimron can take any where from six mths to a year to work:( most doctor after finding out for sure you have ic will start you out on dmso treatments to help get the elimron in your system faster.
I do believe with that type of pain you had you should had went to the e.r for pain control you may have an UTI setting up that needs to be treated with ic if you have a UTI its like to me any how like pouring gas on an already lite fire. its very painful.
we are here for you and we do care.
please let us know how you are.
sending you hugs and many prayers
Rhonda

Hi Dori,

I'm sorry you're feeling so bad! Rhonda's suggestion to be checked for a UTI is a good one, if you haven't already done that. I've heard some say they've used the over the counter test kit with some success, but have no experience with that myself.

As to what usually works for me when I'm in pain is drinking glass after glass of water (spring, not chlorinated) with 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in each one. I drink 'til I can't stand to drink anymore! -Then I drink one more! Also, sitting in the tub while I do my soda-water torture seems to help. If your health requires restricting salt this would probably not be a good idea for you.

I hope some others will come on soon to give you more ideas which work for them.

Vicki

If you actually passed out on your kitchen floor, you should be going to emergency room. At any rate, you should be getting in touch with your doctor.

Warm hugs,
Donna

I can sooooo identify with you. I have been to the ER a couple of times in the last month, numerous dr. visits, Urologist, tests, etc. and the pain kept getting worse while they kept "finding nothing". One thing I did, was stop them from catheterizing me. Every time they did so, I nearly landed on the ceiling. I was on hydrocodone 750 mg every 4-6 hrs along w/ a bendaryl for the itching, so I feel your pain. Please keep on with the dr's and the ladies above are right, go to the ER if you need to. Good Luck! Sending warm thoughts your way!
