Is there any evidence re: sugar & the IC bladder? I've noticed that a couple of diets for IC mention to avoid sugar, but don't say why? Is it a weight management issue or something bladder related? Anyone know the answer to this?

in place of suger alot of people use honey.
I'm not sure why i have no problem with useing suger but i do like the taste of honey so sometimes I will use honey instead of suger hopefully someone else will be by shortly with the answer you need.

Many people with IC can eat sugar with no problem. It can be a problem if you are prone to yeast infections --- yeast does thrive in a sugar environment.

We use very little sugar at our house; I have switched almost 100% to Splenda.

Spenda can be a big problem! They get the calories out of the sugar using a fermentation process. That did me in for 6 weeks until I figured it our.

I noticed someone mentioned that Spenda, the sugar substitute did them in. I can so relate to that and want to warn all of you out there that even though it says it's natural or whatever, it was like pouring salt on my raw bladder and I didn't even think it may have caused it.

I loved drinking my decaf coffee but I added about 4 Splenda to each cup (I can't use Equal or Sweet and Low because of the Asparteme) and I found that when I cut out the Spenda my symptons really got a lot better. I miss my coffee, though. I can't use plain sugar, it tears me up. My Mom suggested Honey to me, and I tried it, but still had a flare up, but nothing compared to the Splenda problems.

Very interesting about Splenda. When I first started getting symptoms, I was trying to remember if I had eaten anything different. I started using Splenda in May of last year and in late September I started having symptoms. I used it for a while, not realizing what was causing a problem and then stopped using it around Feb this year. Maybe that's why I'm sort of the same, not really getting any worse, but not getting completely better either. I've been taking some supplements for inflamation though, so, they might be working more than I realize.

Ladies,

Take it from someone who works for Krispy Kreme Corporate offices. Splenda IS sugar. It is not a sugar substitute, rather sugar that has been processed so that it passes through your system quicker. If sugar bothers you, you can bet Splenda will too. Hope this helps some of you.
