Has anyone else noticed weigh gain while taking Elmiron?

Hi all!:hi:
Has anyone noticed weight gain or having a difficult time losing weight while taking Elmiron? I've been taking it for 9 months now and just feel like as hard as I try, I cannot lose weight!:headbang: I was doing so well up until I started taking Elmiron. I had lost 65 lbs. But slowly gained back 15 of them since I was diagnosed with IC. It is just frustrating and wondered if anyone else is going through the same thing.

rita, i have not noticed that. but had other problems with it. i do think i heard that we are not suppose to be on it for long periods of time. maybe that is why i had so many problems. i had a lot of trouble from the start with digestion. then came the narrow throat. and problems breathing-asthma. they are not listed under the regular side effects. but under the rare ones. i kept having problems. found out on the computer. then i stoped taking it. but i think it caused damage that can't be fixed. so every one be carefull please while on it. i thought about contacking the comany about it.their are other things out there that will help.:hmm: blueblondie1121:butterfly

I didn't myself but I heard others say they have. Can't say how common it is though.

I've actually lost weight! I think it's due to the fact that the medicine has to be taken on an empty stomach, so I don't snack like I did.

I've lost 25 lbs since January.

Yes, Yes I have gained weight with the Elmiron and can not lose any weight
with it. The doctors say it's not the Elmiron but I know it must be. I gained about 13 pounds am working out a half hour a day on the bike and can't seem to shed anything. Also I'm losing a lot of hair as well.
Anyone no the cite for the negative side effects of Elmiron. I'd appreciate it.
Also I would be quezzy every morning with it.

Hi,
I lost 5 pounds -had diarrhea so bad - have been on the elmiron a year..I have cut back to two pills and using Metamucil to settle the bowels and that seems to be helping...I can't afford to loose more weight..

Did I EVER gain weight on Elmiron! It increased my appetite a lot too plus cravings for sweets and butter of all things. It gave me cravings like when I was pregnant. I was unable to lose the weight as long as I was on the Elmiron and got up to 177 lbs, but if someone can take the Elmiron and it helps with the IC it might be worth it. I'm not on Elmiron now. Good luck with this.

Oh great!! I don't want to take this medication if it's going to make me gain weight. I already weigh to much I think. Are there any other pills to help IC that don't make you gain weight? Chelsey

I haven't gained weight (been on 2 months) I have lost 4 lbs. I do know that Alexa is right! Watch out for Elavil...I craved food and gained weight and it all started almost immediately when I started Elavil (taking nothing else at the time). I am now on Elmiron, nothing else, because I wanted to see what Elmiron would do without influence from any other drug in my system. The first 3-4 days I had ear ringing and slight bothersome headaches. For 2wks I had diarrhea (which I cured by taking Benefiber) and now I don't notice anything as a side effect.

:yikes: not sure if its the elmoron but my teeth and mouth hurts also my head feels funny so afraid of losing my hair but more afaid to get of elmoron

Interesting that you say your head feels funny...do you mean your scalp?
I have been on Elmiron for about 2months. The cap of my head feels 'tender'. :rolleyes: I'm careful when I wash my hair because of this. I too, am aftraid of loosing my hair because I have high hopes that Elmiron will be an answer for me. My teeth haven't felt any different, just my scalp.

I believe in the power of the mind, so I have convinced myself to 'disregard' paying close attention to 'possible symptoms' from Elmiron ... think positive and of course pray :pray: . If we don't have a positive out look, even as difficult as it seems, we aren't giving our bodies a chance. Remember too, worry is stress, stress is our enemy.

I have not gained weight, been queasy, lost hair, or had the runs. For me Elmiron has been a Godsend..
