Can antibiotics be taken safely after intimacy?

Somebody's comment(not on here) told me not take take antibiotics 100 mg of Macrobid occassionally because it could cause me lots of harm and also a resistance to antibiotics and if i ever get an infection that antibiotics would never help me again and i'd never get over an infection if one developed.i thought a lot of women took antibiotics after intimacy to keep an infection away and all was okay.this person really scared me about antibiotics.please reply if you have ever taken antibiotics this way and was able to take them without causing more harm as this woman stated to me.the antibiotics were helping me,now i am scared.my doctor did have me on daily macrobid 100mg,but now i only take after intimacy.i was doing pretty good.

There are many women, some who have IC, some who don't, who take antibiotics after sex. I have a friend who has taken them for years --- if she doesn't take them, she will (without fail) get an infection following sex with her husband. The antibiotics prevent the painful UTI experience for her.

It's important to remember that for every treatment option out there, there will be at least one horror story --- if you have concerns, I encourage you to discuss them with your doctor. Of course it would be great if we didn't need any medications at all, but I am thankful every day that I don't live before the time of antibiotics and the other strides that have been made in the medical field in recent years.

Thanks Donna!I will tell my concerns to my doctor at my next visit but you made me feel much better in the meantime.:)

I take, and have taken macrobid after sex for years now. It has never caused me any problems, and I have not gotten a single UTI since I started doing this.

I was told just yesterday that macrobid does not cause the problems of resistance etc. this is why it used as a UTI preventer and it is a good AB for UTI's.
