I can be bordering flaring for days at a time ... but a flare-flare usually lasts for 4-6 hours for me. Knock on wood!!
I know many other people here have flares that last for much longer though - so I guess it depends.

I have yet to see a short flare!! I have been in a constant flare for a year in a half.I finally found relief in my new medicine from my pain clinic doctor. It has been a life saver.I was seriously at wits end.Ready to GIVE up.The doctor put me on methadone.I had tried EVERYTHING else.Thank God for this medicine. You must have a good doctor, that's first things first.then you will find relief.Best of luck in this.Celine

Oh my gosh, Celine. I'll be sending prayers your way that you get a break from all of this, SOON!!
Until then, you're fighting a brave fight.
Just keep putting one foot in front of the other .....

What's the difference between bordering of a flare and being in a flare-flare? Something bugged me that I ate yesterday and I have been trying different meds all day to get it under control. Thankfully it's not that bad...
Celine. It sounds like you're having a really hard time. Methadone is some potent stuff, at least that helps you. Thanks god for small miracles eyh? JJohnson is right, some days you just have to put one foot infront of the other to get by...
A big hug and  coming your way!!

Thanks JJ. That's what I have been doing... Not to mention that my mouth is like a desert (thanks to the ditropan) so I have been drinking so much water-it's a must!!
Question, if asparateme is bad for you what kind of sugar free things can you suck on that aren't irritating?
Thanks,
Renee

Hi There...
Check the candy aisle of your local grocery store or drug store... there should be sugar-free candies that are made for diabetics. Many of these are now sweetened with Splenda, which is a new sweetener that is NOT aspartame. They have hard candies that have it... I like them :)
I am one of the ones who even flares with Splenda, so you just have to watch it.:(

I used to consider a flare, any kind of spasm in my bladder area. Now, I feel that about 80% of the time. So, at this point, I consider a flare to be PAIN and INCREASED FREQUENCY. My flares last about 3-4 days on average. After 4 1/2 years of this, I just last weekend, called my Uro to ask for something stronger for these difficult days. I know this disease isn't supposed to progress, but I feel mine has.
