Hi,
Does anyone use B and O suppositories??? My uro gave me a script for them and I was wondering if anyone can tell me their experience with them.
Thanks,
Danielle

I only had a B&O suppository once... my uro put it in there when he finished my cysto/hydro in March. I was still under anesthesia, but woke up shortly after that. Then I was given a shot of Dilaudid in the recovery room. So, basically, I'm not sure how much of the pain relief was from the B&O, but I do know that I was amazingly comfortable for a few hours after my surgery, despite the fact that I was holding DMSO in there in addition to just having had a hydro. (When the drugs wore off later, I hurt, but for a while I was good to go :) )
Normally, I can only hold DMSO for about 20-25 minutes due to spasms, but that day I held it for just over an hour with no problems. I probably could have held it longer even, but I wanted to go home and the nurse told me I couldn't leave until I showed her I could pee on my own. :)
So... it seems to me those suppositories are pretty good :)

i used them a few times last summer for spasming of one of my ureters. they basically sent me to sleep for about 15 hours. i had horrible nightmares that got worse each time i used them. once i woke up a few hours after taking the supprette and was able to sit up for the first time in days. no pain at all. but i quit using them because of the nightmares. and when i would wake up after 15 hours or so, i was in pain again. still have them, but i'm afraid to take them anymore.
good luck. hope you have a better experience.
I've been on B&O for several months now. They have helped with my PFD and holding the DMSO instill for a longer period of time. Since I've been on B&O, I've been able to fly. Wasn't able to fly for a couple of years. Also more comfortable riding in a vehicle....not grimacing going over speed bumps or even cracks in the rode like I used too.

B&O have made my life so much easier !
Prior to taking them I had 2 significant symptoms.
First, I had bladder spasm pain that even morphine or the pain patch could not take care of ... AND because I take narcotics I started to sweat when I did activity. I have heard from so many of you who also take opiod pain medication and you also found you were fine when lying down but if you got up to start doing some work you would immediately start to sweat. The B&O suppositories helped both of these problems.
I would be very self conscious at work. I work in a dental office and when I would be working on my patient I would sweat so much, my face mask would become wet. Having the B&O has completely cleared up that problem. It turned out to be a great benefit to a drug that makes all the difference when I am in absolute agony and could never have gone to work if I didn't have them as part of my pain management tools.

I thought having a b&o after my cysto and hydro was wonderful! No pain, no soreness, I could still pee if I needed to and that helped me make the transition from the hospital to home MUCH easier. I had no ill side effects from them (just the anesthesia. Yuk.)
I would definitely recommend them for use from time to time....From what my uro has told me: they are some heavy hitting drugs and require lots of paperwork on the doctors end. I envy people who are able to get a Rx with no problem :)

Thanks everybody for your replies. The only side effects I have noticed so far are dry mouth and a little bit of a spacey feeling that goes away shortly. They are helping my pain greatly. (I have the hunners ulcers) and the frequency and urgency. They do not make me sleepy or unable to function. I would reccommend to anyone to give them a try if they haven't found anything yet that helps with the pain. Wishing everyone a pain free weekend!!!!
Thanks again,
Danielle:thumbsup:
