You will have an anesthetic for the distention and biopsies. There may be some pain afterwards, but you should be given pain medications so it won't be horrible. The first few times you urinate after the procedure will be owchy, but that's the worst part.
I hope the procedure puts you in remission.
When you ask how long do you have this stuff, do you mean how long does IC last? If that's what you mean, IC is not currently curable, but there are many treatment options available.
Warm hugs,
Donna

Hi,
I had this done and I had a spinal for it, and afterwards I had to take pain meds for a week, but I was never uncomfortable. Good luck,

When I had my distention done about a year and a half ago I was totally prepared to be in pain for days. When I first woke up, my bladder was hurting and I was so upset because I didn't want to be in a flare for days. They gave me some pretty nice pain killers at the hospital and sent me home. (Does anyone remember the pills they give you that make you pee purple??)
When those pain killers wore off about 2 hours later -- I was totally fine! I took a long nap, and 6 hours later I went out to dinner!!
So, you could be totally fine! I'll be sending you good luck vibes. When do you go in?

I didn't have a biopsy, but did have a hydrodistension. I felt sore & had increased frequency for a couple of days, but it wasn't a big deal.
Hope you feel better soon!

I woke up without appendix, I also had a laparoscopy done with it. And I had so much pain I could scream, they immediately put me on Morphine and an anesteziologist kept checking up on me all the time. I stayed on Morphine for around 30 hours, I was able to selfadministrate it (I must admit I a little bit over did it, lol). All that time I was on catheter and it was heaven not having to go on toilet all the time. On day 2 I went off Morphine and they took catheter out and I went home. 2 days my bladder was wonderful. Then ym problems started again. I heard some people go into remission after it, I wasn't the lucky one.
Do not take my story that seriously, as said, I had what you will have and a laparoscopy and appendectomy at the same time.
Also, I talked a lot to nurses and doctors, they all kept coming to me all teh time and talking to me since I was just 4 months in the country (moved from Slovenia to Holland) and they all said it is different for every person, there is no way that something would be the same for everybody. Some have pain, most don't at all.

Well I had it all done the distention and the biopsy and the biopsy was ok.BUt after being treated for IC for 2mth's now he said I just have inflammation and an over active bladder when I went in for my test results. BUt at the hosp he toldme he could see the ic in my bladder. I am so lost I think he dosen't know for sure. I read about the over active bladder thing and it is almost the same thing as IC . But I did do ok I guess I hurt for 2 weeks now but I am ok if I take my med's. If I dont take a pain killer I will start to hurt very bad. What is up with my right side of my bladder hurting????? thanks for all of yall info!!!!!!

I think everyone experiences different pain levels with the distention. I was so determined to stop the IC pain the distention didnt bother me at all. I had a little pain and bleeding but that was it. It helped my IC for awhile also.
