Hi I'm new to this board! I'm so glad I found it!!
I'm not new to IC I've had it since 1993. I'm 16 weeks pregnant and have been having symptoms for the last month. Now it's unbareable. My midwife prescribed me pyridium.
Anyone else take pyridium while pregnant? How long did you take it?

I didn't take it while pregnant.
But if your midwife said it was ok then I guess she would know!;)
Congrats on the pregnancy and glad you found this site too!!:hi:

Thanks for your reply Jamie!
If you didn't take pyridium how did you deal with the pain and urgency?

Well......lucky, I suppose. My pain wasn't so bad cause I had been on Elmiron for two years before. It must have been working better than I thought.
Just making sure I stayed away from those "no-no" foods that caused flares helped me also.
Not to say I was never in pain.....I slept ALOT. That helped with stress. The urgency, I pictured everyone else who was pregnant going through it too. Twice I did have uti's, so it was hard determining whether it was normal/Ic stuff or actually a uti.
I hope you can get more replies from some other gals who has gone through this too.:hi:
Are you having lots of pain and frequency? Been checked for a uti?

Hi Cheri,
With both pregnancies, I've really tried to avoid any meds. There's a wonderful book that might be helpful before and after pregnancy (after, if you're choosing to breastfeed). It's called, Mother's Milk. It reviews almost all drugs for risk during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It's a great resource. I can't remember the author's name, perhaps Thomas Hale. I do remember my urologist stating that percoset was safe for issues with pain. I tried it once when breastfeeding, and I was able to sleep (until awakened by the baby).
Hope this helps. Hang in there.
Take care,
Melly

Hi Cheri,
Another thought is to consult with your OBGYN. They have excellent resources for reviewing meds. I don't think a few doses of pyridium would be harmful, especially since you're past the first trimester. It is classified as a category "B" drug pregnancy risk. Of course it's best to consult with an expert. Oh, and the full title of the book is Medications and Mother's Milk by Thomas Hale.
Hope the info helps.

While I was pregnant with my daughter (age 1 &1/2 now) my IC got alot better in the second and third trimesters, it almost seemed to go into remission, but now I don't think it really did, but the pain really improved even if the frequency didn't .
Be Hopeful.
Good Luck!

I took pyridium throughout my pregnancy after finding an obgyn who knew a little about IC. She knew how much pain I was in and she figured the bennifits outweighed the risks. I gave birth march 8th to a beautiful 8lb baby boy. He has sokme health problems related to food allergies and reflux but nothing from the pyridium. It is really a decision you have to make on your own. I looked into it online and it was classified as a class b drug, considered somewhat safe. Good luck.

My uro said Pyridium is safe if used occasionally. My FNP at OB/GYN's office said to avoid it. Although they think I should be off all meds especially during 1st trimester. Ultimately, I think it's up to you and your husband to weigh the risks and benefits.
Personally, if I'm graced w/ pregnancy someday, I'll take pyridium on days I really need it.
