I finally made the decision to quit smoking, and have been 13 days smober.

Here's how it happened:

I started having asthma symptoms after part of ceiling fell down in april (still hasn't been fixed lol maintenance keeps giving us excuses)
I ignored those symptoms, but got an ear infection around the same time
In June, I got what I now know is pneumonia

I continued to smoke the whole damn time. July 1st, I got a call from my grandfather telling me that he has been diagnosed with emphysema (he had pneumonia in february requiring hospitalization.) I set my quit date for July 4th, went to the doctors, got a bronchodialator and antibiotics, but the infection is still in my lungs.
I decided I was not going to do any more damage, and here I am.

It's been SO good for my bladder, too. Until I quit, I had no idea how irritating it was! The best part, is saving money. In a couple months I can actually afford the physical therapy and botox my uro suggested.

I totally understand how much of a struggle ditching cigarettes can be, but I agree that it's well worth it --- when I quit over twenty years ago, I made a decision that if I could go without smoking for four days, I could go without for the rest of my life. You are well past that now. Congratulations!

Let me know when you feel more comfortable without puffing --- I'd love to add you to our "I quit" honor roll.

Thank you Donna!!
I'm way too stubborn to start smoking again, my friends and family are so proud of me. Of course, I understand that one day I might slip. But for now, I'm taking it one day at a time (not thinking about the future, too intimidating) and pledging N.O.P.E (not one puff ever) everyday.

Just remember --- when you think you just have to have one puff, it's not YOUR brain that's talking to you --- it's your addiction! That was the toughest part for me --- learning just how strong a nicotine addiction can be.

Hang tough! You're winning.
