I was dxed with IC a few weeks ago. I also have endometriosis and possible adenymosis. I'm having a Total Abdominal Hyst and RSO on June 10th, and I am wondering if I should stop taking Elmiron before surgery? My GYN said to talk to my GP at my Pre-op...but I'm a little inpatient. I know on the prescription insert it said something about do not take if u are having surgery.
If anyone has any thoughts on this, please let me know:)
I take 3 -100mg pills a day
Thanks,
Love and hugs, Jodee:kiss:

You will probably need to stop taking it for a few days before surgery.

I had a hysterectomy in January for endo and I was told to stop everything but my Epilepsy meds 24 hours prior.....I complained about the elmiron and was allowed to stay on it but still had to be off it the first day of recovery.
I hope things go well for you.

I just had the surgery in March. I was not told to stop it the Elmiron, so I asked at my pre-op appointment at the hospital. I pointed out that Elmiron can thin the blood. The nurse looked it up in her book then called my Doctor. He told her I did not need to stop it. I never had a break in my dosage, infact they gave it to me in the hospital. I had no extra bleeding, I was actually amazed that I didn't have any. I kept checking my bed pad in the hospital, but had nothing. I was suprised that such a big surgery could be so clean.

ps. I just wanted to add that I felt so much better after surgery. (Though I am in a flare right now, because I ate a bannana, it is not bad like before)overall I am so much better. So much pressure was lifted. In my case my uterus was too big. I figured if surgery would take even a tiny bit of pressure off it would be worth it. The relief far exceeded my expectations. I was concerned when I first got out of the hospital, I thought I might have an infection. Turns out it was just the catheter had irritated me. It calmed down after a few days. Be sure to rest.
Happy healing to you
