I received student loans in 2004-05 and was subsequently diagnosed with IC in 2007. I received Social Security in 2009 and my current Urologist has agreed to sign the necessary forms to have my student loans forgiven. Has anyone gone through this process and if so, were yours forgiven? Did you need other information from the physician? Was it a straight-forward process? How long did it take?
Thank you!

I too have school loans but, I am so sick all the time from the IC I have a very hard time trying to work. Unless there is a miracle, I have no way to pay my school loans. I will do my best to research it but, if you find out will you email me at motherteresa27@comcast.net, I would like very much to find out what I am supposed to do.
Hugs,
Teresa

Teresa,
Of course, I will email you. I found out my applications were signed by my physician and now they have been forwarded from the lender to the company called Nelnet that reviews them secondarily and asks the physician for any new records. I was basically told that they would be forgiven, but it could take up to 90 days to get confirmation. For now, they are in forbearance. Have you considered placing yours into forbearance? You do not have to make payments on them and it gives the lender(s) time to process your applications. Just a thought. I will let you know how it turns out.
