I was diagnosed with IBS about 6 years ago, long before I was diagnosed with IC. For Me my IBS is all disherria. I am very rarely consipated. I am sure that I have an average of 6 bowel movements a day. On top of going to the bathroom to pee every ten minutes.
It is really fun, I love going to the bathroom all the time. I have to know where every bathroom is around the time.

I have IBS pluss no colon and a small Pouch doing its job....I have 5 bowl movements a day on good days.....and from what you say I must be dealing with some constipation or my bad days would be way worse. Anyway (((((hugs))))) 5 bowl movements without IBS giving me diarehea is a problem enough...I know it sucks feeling like you always have to go to the bathroom if it isn't one reason it is the other......stay away from fat :)
Are you on any medication? The medication I am on with my food helps me some......with the years docs have been treating me I like the new meds out theese days.

Oh, I can sympathize, I've had 5 bowel movements today and it isn't even 2:00pm where I am yet. Plus whenever the IBS gets going, the IC bladder gets jealous and wants in on the fun, so, I am spending the day on the toilet.
This is my 2nd IBS flare-up this month. Before this, I hadn't had one since December!!!

Hello,:hi:
I know just how you feel. I know every where evry bathroom in the state is. :)
I do not drive so I take the bus to school and work and on bad days this can be sheer torture!!
I have started taking Digestive Advantage IBS formuls and it seems to help. Then again different things seem to work on different days!
Best wishes,

fiber gives me so much gas it is the enemy to my IBS.....but if your only symptom is diarehia from IBS it should help you as should Calcium.
Just letting you know

my symptoms with IBS is constipation! I've been constipated my entire life! I remember when I was a kid, going to the doctor over and over for stomach aches. He always said irritable bowels or spastic colon. I don't know how many times I was put in the hospital. I used to get so mad everytime I heard that. ( I was a kid, and wanted him to tell me it was something new!)

(((((((((((((((((((((((((IBS GROUP BIG BIG HUG))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Kim so glad you are doing better.
Julie hope things stay good.
My IBS is often my worse enemy theese days......I have no idea if there is anything I can eat that won't upset my body. Before I eat anything I eat an ammount of Beano, Hyoscyamine, and Prelief to eat anything. And that is the small group of things that I do eat...I would like to replace my whole digestive system.....I mean the colon has already been taken out...but was replaced with a part of my sick body....I want digestive system replaced with healthiness.
If that would happen I would be on a lot less meds! :)
Take Care all

I have similar symptoms to IBS but I have had an acid stomach since I was a little girl. How do you find out if it is IBS? who treats it? Are the meds compatable with IC, Diet changes? I have boughts of constipation followed by days of diareha. It is alwful and it causes the IC to flare because any bowl movement is painful everything inside just starts spasming and then I even feel nausua????? Sound Like IBS????? What do I do about it?

Hi, sorry to hear about the ibs. you need to go to a gastrologist.
I am 42 years old and I've had ibs since I was 12 years old. Every one is different with the diet. Sometimes you can eat certain foods and you will be fine and then other days your ibs will act up.
I have found out that eating small amounts several times a day works better than eating alot in one meal. Between the ic and ibs you are very limited with what you can eat.
Good luck. My prayers are with you.

I've had IBS for 3 years now. As soon as I suspected it -- even before being diagnosed by a gastroenterologist -- I bought 2 books called "The First Year: IBS" and "Eating for IBS". Absolute lifesavers! The woman who wrote them was wonderful! Here is her web site: http://www.helpforibs.com/. If you haven't already, definitely check this out --- so many great suggestions for helping you cope.
My IBS was very bad the first 2 years, but has subsided a little. My doc says sometimes it can go away completely for years, then show up again when you're 40. He's seen it happen....could be a hormonal thing. I've also heard getting pregnant eliminates it/makes it better....another hormonal thing. Somehow, these things (even IC) are tied together I'm sure.
Anyway, my IBS switches from diarrhea then constipation. The best defense against the diarrhea for me has been drug Pamine. I take it before I eat anything I know is questionable, or even if I'm just feeling uneasy. It works like a charm. But, it can constipate me a little, so I have to take my Fibercon (at least 5 pills/day) after the Pamine to get regular again.
I definitely know mine acts up with high-fat foods and cream. But, mostly, I think it acts up during stressful times and high-humidity (stress on the body). Living in the Northeast is probably not the best idea! Sometimes during my worst days, I felt like packing up and moving to the Pacific Northwest where heat and humidity almost never co-exist! But, I'm successful at keeping it at bay most of the time by eating the right things, eating small amounts of food all day long, trying to work out on a regular basis and getting enough sleep. Just everything I can do to keep my body feeling normal....not upsetting the balance is key for me!
I hope you all find a repreive from IBS in whatever way works for you -- I'm sure we can all appreciate how great it feels to have at least one normal-feeling, regular bowel-movement day ;)

I got diagnosed with IBS and spastic colon about 10 years ago. The IC was finally diagnosed 3 weeks ago. The problem I have the most is not knowing what disease is upsetting me when I have flare ups. Lately, everything upsets me and sends me to the bathroom (5-6 times a day). My pain from IC is in my testicles (lucky me). They had diagnosed me as having chronic prostatitis until the cysto with distension proved the IC. I am afraid to eat anything. It either runs right through me, or I get pain in the morning. Luckily, I don't seem to have all the pain that most of you describe with burning and needing pain meds.

I have found taking a daily fiber supplement like metmucil capsules helps tremendously. Also, never go longer than 5 hours without food - if you do (like at night) begin with a fiber supplement before eating. I also eat a cup of yogurt everyday. I have found that the help for my IBS far out ways any flare in my IC. Just wanted to share my experience. Good Luck!
