Hi! After my last flare up nearly three weeks ago, I have been watching my diet very closely. I'm avoiding citric acid totally. Have I been feeling better? Well, I do have pain 24/7-not the extent of the past flare up. I still am taking pain meds every 4-6 hours and I am beginnng to accept that after nearly four years of only allowing myself two pain pills a day! I don't know why I put myself through that! I have actually gone out and socialized with friends three times this week-and that's what I use to do in one month!
I made the cottage cheese/dill dressing I found on this website and I truly do love it. I use it for salads-make it a bit thicker for chip/veggie dip and also use it as a 'mayonnaise' for tuna/chicken salad sandwiches. I am in heaven that I can once again have a couple more things that I have missed.
I have been eating graham crackers like they are going out of style-but the normal pain has increased. Does graham flour bother anyone else? I'm the type, who goes on a food 'kick'-I'll eat the same thing for weeks until I am tired of it.
Hope everyone is well.

It's from Bev Laumann. I think you just mix cottage cheese with a sprinkle of dried dill, also you can add chopped cucumber... Then toss your salad with it so it coats the lettuce. (Way better tasting than just plopping it on top...)

Oh, I've seen when I buy cottage cheese, that some have acid in them. So check the label before you buy! I get the Knudsen lowfat in the little individual containers & am okay with that:)

I can't eat graham crackers because I found out I am allergic to wheat. Wheat is not on the IC list of trigger foods, but it causes me severe problems. It takes a blood test specifically directed at wheat to find it.

When I eat wheat, I get severe IBS and I swell up like a balloon. As soon as I swell, I have an IC flare. I don't get relief until I pass the food and become regular again. I went into remission within a few days of starting a wheat free diet.

You may notice other foods have the same effect. I also have problems with many of the usual acid foods, such as ketchup, spices and other foods on the IC list. Interestingly, since going wheat free, the impact of the other trigger foods seems to have reduced. Jala.

I am ok with Keebler Honey Grahams and enjoy them for a treat. If I absolutely need a big treat, I spread a little vanilla ice cream on a half of a graham cracker, put the other graham cracker half on top and have an ice cream sandwich. Yummy!

Thanks Kadi for the info. I will try that. I hate salads without any type of dressing so this should work.

Pam-
Here is what you do for the cottage cheese/dill dressing:
olive oil
cottage cheese
fresh chopped dill (fresh has more flavor than the dried)
parsley
milk

I just start by using the olive oil and then add cottage cheese-blend. Then I add some milk-the amount depends on how thick/thin you would like the dressing or if you are using it as a dip. Then I add the dill and parsley. It is great! I make a small jar of it every week!

Enjoy!:)

I have to know how much of each ingredient! I'm no good at guessing!

Alana,

I too tend to get stuck on foods I like. But I try to mix things up.

Maybe getting more variety in your diet might help. For example, if there is something about the graham crackers that MIGHT bother you slightly, there might not be enough in one or two to do anything to you at all. But when you eat a lot of them, you get a lot more of whatever it is, so you may see an increase in your symptoms.

Also, by trying to eat a wide variety of foods, I find I miss those which I absolutely cannot have much less.

Thanks for the ingredients for the cottage cheese/dill dressing. I will try it. I know a lot of people just use the olive oil but I can't do it. I've tried several times and could not eat the salad. I love salads so this should help a lot.
