The next step my doc wants to take is botox injections. My symptoms are mostly frequency at night (and sometimes during the day and sometimes urgency if I eat something I shouldn't or it's PMS time), but I do not have pain. My pelvic floor muscles are very tight and this is after a year of physical therapy and a series of homeopathic trigger point injections. I apologize if others have posted their experiences with botox in the past, but unfortunately I do not get to this site often. I was curious to hear from anyone who has had botox injections and all of their experiences from it and what their symptoms were going in and if it helped with some symptoms and not others. Was it done in the doctor's office as an outpatient? Where exactly did they inject the botox? How many injections was it? Did it hurt? Is there any concern of losing bladder control if these muscles are paralyzed? For those who had it done a while ago, how long did it last until symptoms returned? For anyone who had it done for pelvic floor tightness, does it help with the tightness so that it just doesn't make you uncomfortable (ie during sex) or does it actually allow the muscles to become more flexible and "elastic?" These are just some basic questions and I plan on asking my doctor all of them, but I always like to hear from people based on experience. I completely trust my doc as she is one of the best IC docs in the country, but I also sometimes feel that she pushes me to do try something because in her eyes it is "the next step" for me to take, but not really sharing the bad sides.
I appreciate anyone who can take the time to answer any of these questions or offer any advice.
Thank you SO much!

Hi Dana,
I have had Botox injections three times in the bladder and the last time my uro injected my urethra too. Next Friday, the 28th I am having the bladder, urethra, and pelvic floor muscles injected. Botox has really helped my bladder and urethra. It lasts about six months with the bladder and it lasted about four with the urethra.
When the Botox wore off I don't think my symptoms came back as strong. I had flares but between them was much better. I am trying the injections for the pelvic floor muscles because I have been in physical therapy for 8 months and still have problems relaxing the pelvic floor muscles. I am hoping that the Botox will help with the tightness and irritation so I can be more effective with PT.
I hope I answered your questions, feel free to ask me anything you like about my experience with Botox. My personal email address is cinsinc@yahoo.com.

Hi Dana!!
I have had 4 times the injections, inside my bladder, urethra, vagina and pelvic floor muscles
As Cindy, Botox changed my life, and now I can make more things than before Botox
In my case, I think Botox helps me more in uretrha and pelvic floor than in my bladder
My dr put the injections under anesthesia in the surgery room, and I don´t have pain after the procedure
CINDY: I hope everything goes well this friday, I send you a kiss and I´ll be thinkig in you!!!!

I'm trying to find out as much as I can on Botox. I am having a TAH/RSO intwo weeks, so according to my doc I wont be able to start injectiond till 6-8 weeks after surgery. I am interested in this a lot!! I have struggled every day for so long, and I am just strarting to get confuzed...like what should I do in the meantime.
I am meeting with a new Uro on June 1st...I actually had him remove a massive kidney stone about 8 years ago. But this will be the fisrt meeting with me since all this has come up. I have never been tested through there office, but I was tested with a PST and according to the doc and the nurse practioner....I definate;y have it but where do we go from there? I'm hoping this clic will be able to do weekly injections or teach me how to do it and I can do them at home. I guess I just have so many new questions....if, when , and how long I can can I have these rescue therapy....They told me I can have them weekly down there, but it is four hours away...little TOO far away...xspecially feeling like this. So the whole point of all this jibberish is that I really need to find out more. I went to my local librbay and they are sending me two books on IC...so I hope to find some info there too.
If anyone has any answers or just anything to tell me could help me, I would appreciate it so much:kiss:
If anyone has anyinfo on the Botox injections could you please e-mail me. Jodrbkr@msn.com
Thanks so much ladies I'm really enjoying these boards:hi:

Hi Jodee!!
Sorry!, but what is TAH/RSO??
I am just guessing but the TAH may be Total Abdominal Hysterectomy. I don't know about the RSO.

Total Abdominal Hyst and removal of right tube and ovary....I guess I thought it would be easier to just write them out...sorry:)
I just got through with a med terminology class and was kinda used to using the "doctors words"...LOL
Any advice is welcomed!!
I would love to know if anyone has had pelvic pain reduced due to these injections. I'm also having endo tissue removed so I hope all my female problems will be over, and will just work on the IC getting better...I hope:)

Jodee:
The first time that I had the injections was on Dec 2002, and 2 months later I had the hyterectomy, after that, 3 months later I had for second time the injections
My periods, one week before, and one week later everytime were worse, all the times I had a terrible pain and retention. With the hysterectomy 3 weeks a moth I am fine
Botox helps me so much with my PFD, because my sphincter is overactive (all the time is closed), so with Botox I´m able to empty my bladder and pelvic pain is less, in fact, my Dr uses to inject in my pelvic floor via vagina and in my urethra
I continue with pain, and flares, but are controlables, and with analghesics I continue with my daily activities
I want to mention that twice I had the injections inside my bladder, but I think that in this doesn´t help me so much. For my bladder the hydrodistension is better

I had Botox injections four times now.
The first time (Oct 2002) was just the bladder and my uro used 200 units (2 bottles). That was probably too much and I did have a problem with retention. However, it did help with pain and spasms.
The second time (June 2003) was just the bladder again and my uro only used 100 units. This helped the bladder, but still had urethra and pelvic pain.
The third time (Dec 2003) we injected the bladder and urethra. The uro used 150 units in all. That helped the bladder and it actually made the problem I have always had with emptying my bladder a little easier.
The fourth, last Friday (May 28) we injected the bladder, urethra, vestibule glands and pelvic floor muscles. I had no pain at all following the procedure. I have no urgency, no spasms and I can empty my bladder without having to strain much at all for the first time in 28 years.
Botox has been far more easier then any other treatment options I have tried with IC, PFD, and VV.
If anybody would like to email me about Botox I would be happy to answer any questions. My email address is cinsinc@yahoo.com.
Flore, I got your email and responded. I really enjoyed seeing you again and meeting your uro earlier this month. Love you and thanks for thinking about me.
