Hi everyone--
Just wanted to give you guys another update on my continuing saga--saw the pain management doc yesterday and he is wonderful. Has taken care of hundreds of IC patients--Yay! Mentioned blocks as an option, but told me we would try to establish pain control with meds first, and that is a-ok with me. Facing an anterior repair with a sling soon, I don't want any extra needles if the oral things work. He also is fan of the pumps, but we decided that will be a choice of last resort. This man has a great bedside manner, listens, and said that he was shocked that I still looked so together because he knows IC pain relief that goes uncontrolled is just as bad as some cancer pain. I was told that I needed to quit being so stoic and give myself a break--can you believe it? Where has this man been hiding? He is an angel! Anyway, we are trying out Oxycontin, Percocet for breakthrough pain, Phenergan for nausea, and trazadone(that I have never taken before). So even though this has been a very challenging week mentally and physically, this has been one of the bright spots. The fact that the GYN told me she could help me out too gives me hope. As far as the job thing--I'm doing ok. Thanks for all your prayers.

Hugs,
Barb

Hi Babs, can I clone your pain management guy- he sounds like a dear!

I just had both the anterior and posterior sling surgery a little over 2 weeks ago. Trust me, I was really worried about post op pain, but I shared my concern with doctors and staff and it was managed well. I had a one night hospital stay.

The IC flare kicked in for me about 4 to 5 days post surgery- just a typical flare, too. I was surprised to discover that my IC flare pain was worse than the surgical pain. We must be a stoic bunch here- ICers are so used to some really tough pain, that when we get surgery it's a walk in the park.

The hardest part about the sling surgery is no lifting, no exercise, and no love. The easiest part is no heavy cleaning, no vacumning, and oh yes, no lifting those heavy pans, so cooking is out, too. :D

Take care, Carla

Babs,

I with Carla on that. I wish my pain management Doc. was that wonderful. Mine is really against the pain pump. He says that they are very uncomfortable. He described it as a tuna can in size and said most of his patients complain about the pump more than are happy about it. Great news for you!!!!!!!!!

Babs, That is great news about the pain doc! It is about time you get the relief that you (we all) deserve! Best of luck on the new meds, and as for the job, maybe at this very time it is a blessing not to be working, cuz if they have side effects you can deal with them at home. Again, all the best to you. Please keep us posted on how you are doing! SheriG

Just wondering if anyone knows of a Pain Management Doc, in the Philadelphia area, who is knowledgeable regarding IC and willing to treat the pain associated with it.

Barb, that's wonderful! I hope you will always have a good pain management doc to help you, and for the rest of us, I hope that more and more doctors come to understand about IC and come to be compassionate about it.

Blessings, Lori
