I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place, but I have a question about swimming. Does chlorine affect IC? I'm still new at this, and I'd like to use my pool this summer. Is it safe to stay in for a few moments? Does it cause flares? Thanks for any answers.

I don't do well in clorinated water, but it sounds like you have your own pool --- so you might consider alternatives for keeping the water safe.

Some ICers don't have a problem at all with swimming.

Good luck!

Hi Liz

I have terrible flares from swimming in chlorinated swimming pools every day. If I only swim about twice a week for 20 mins and shower straight after, then I can sometimes be okay. Not every time though.

My first year I was diagnosed, I was swimming every day in our swimming pool. I sometimes think whether that is what caused my IC or just brought my symptoms to a head.

I can swim in the sea no problem.

We will be leaving for our honeymoon on sunday a.m. We are going on 7 day cruise to the Grand Cayman Islands and a few other places. We will have a private jacuzzi in our suite and the big pool on deck, plus we will be going to the beach at a few stops. I am wondering if that could affect my IC any. I have used the pool and jacuzzi at the YMCA without much problems. Hopefully this won't bother me. I already have my IC survival pack ready.[pyridium, self-sticking heating pads, and my usual meds.]TOMORROWIS THE BIG DAY!!!!!! :woohoo:

Liz - I have never had a problem with chlorinated pools, but I know others do. Another one of those highly individual things.

Patticake - The big day tomorrow is your wedding? Hooray!!! Have a wonderful day!!!!! :)

HI! I we just bought a pool and a hot tub. Sadly, I cannot use either one since being diagnosed with IC last year. I decided to try it once..and had a huge flare up and a yeast infection! Arrrg! It gets so frustrating!!! I love swimming and hot tubs and now just have to watch my family having fun. :( Everyday I say to myself "why me?" but then I think of things that could be worse and try to find the postive things in my life.:)

Wishing everyone a painfree day. Hugs, Rita_Lorraine:grouphug: :butterfly
