View Full Version : GIANT junk food cravings...
The past 2 weeks I'm having giant food cravings- want to eat cookies, chips, donuts in bulk!!! I don't want to gain weight! And if I keep up this kind of junky eating I will. How do other people manage the weight issue? (I'm especially worried because I'm on Elavil, have been on it since Sept, and haven't gained any weight, so far & really want to keep it that way!!!)
What a weird disease, I can't eat a single strawberry without pain, but I can eat a bunch of glazed donuts or a can of Original Pringles, no problem.
I've had a bunch of PMS type symptoms for several weeks, which makes no sense because I'm on continuous use Yasmin, haven't had a period in 5 months. Went ahead & had the period this week, which stopped most of the PMS stuff, but not the food cravings... What gives?
Any suggestions??

Oh Kadi!!!!.......My guess would be the elavil. I took it for almost 3 months and gained an undisclosed amount of weight.
I had been so proud of myself for losing all my baby weight after having my son.........but gained alot back after this med.
If the elavil is working for you just fight the cravings like mad!;)
You can always ask your uro if there is something else to try also that doesn't cause this crazy food crave too. Big hugs to you! I'd love to have a doughnut right now.........but still trying to fight some of this weight off.
Hi Kadi, do not feel alone, I am on Elavil also, have been on almost two years, I have gained weight, I lost a lot before I was diagnosed, because of the pain and symptoms did not eat much. Well went on to Elavil, does help a tremendous amount, but the craving for sweets is there all the time. Have to watch myself a lot, but pigged out today, its my birthday, and I said what the heck, go for it, hugs Iris.:hi:  :woohoo: :flower:

I know what you're going through, Kadi...Elavil does me the same way. The cravings are especially bad in the late afternoon/evening hours. I finally quit buying ANY kind of junk food at the grocery store, just to keep from going crazy and eating it all up at once.
hugs,
Dee

My idea of a perfect world would be one in which the calories were in the carrots instead of the brownies! There are days when I feel like eating everything in sight.

I suspect now that I'm thinking it through, that the increase in the cravings is probably related to increasing the Elavil from 10 up to 20 mgs. I think I'll go back down to 10 and see if this eases up in a couple of weeks.
(Annoyingly enough, I don't think increasing the Elavil did anything helpful for my bladder as far as I can tell. It's been almost a month.) This is maddening!
Thanks so much for all the support. I don't know what I'd do without you guys!

My guess is Elavil also. Are you depressed at all? I crave sweets when I am depressed. My daughter craves sweets right before her period.
One more thought. Next time you are having bloodwork you should get your sugar tested. I read somewhere that if your sugar level is high (diabetes) it can cause sweet cravings.
