A nurse just tried desperately to convince me the Lexapro and celexa are the same thing. I sqid no the are not and I refused the Celexa and am going to have my husband bring mine from home. Was I right??

Technically they are not the same medication, but they work in the same way.

LexaproŽ (escitalopram oxalate) and CelexaŽ (citalopram hydrobromide) are both prescription medications classified as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. They are very similar medications, although there are some important differences between the two

Just did a quick copy from a search of celexa vs lexapro, not all the info but enough to answer your question I would think. I would have hubby bring your's, who want to mess with that sort of thing with other problems going on as well????

Feel better soon,
Sandra

It's not unusual for hospitals to stock cheaper alternative medications. This has happened to me too. If I'm hospitalized again I plan to take my more expensive meds with me.
