I QUIT -- No More DMSO For Me

Hey all,

I went for a DMSO treatment today because I've been flaring, but after careful deliberation, I have decided to quit them from now on. I do not have the time or the patience to keep going to the urologist's office for a treatment I question the effectiveness of. My urologist has been great up until now, but he seems ticked off that I am still having flares after 9 DMSO, and a couple months of Elmiron... his ONLY solution is to do a DMSO every time I flare, which I do not think is helping me all that much... and he doesn't seem like he's willing to do much other than this.

Sooo... I requested a copy of my medical record, and depending on how I feel over the next few weeks with just the diet, my Elmiron, and a nightly Atarax, I may seek a second opinion. Like I said, I love my uro, he's a sweet man... but we seem to be at the farthest limits of his treatment repetoire.

Look for another uro....this one may be a sweet man, but there's always someone out there who can suggest something new. A few months of elmiron is not enough to make a real difference, I took mine for 6 to 9 months before I started seeing results. Those instillations didn't do the job for me, either.

hi i'm new to the network but i too had DSMO which i told the urologist to shove......well u get the picture. It would take 2 or 3 days to recover from the spasms it caused and then it was time to do it again. i switched urologists as well...

Hi Jen, do hope you will start feeling better soon. I know I was offered DMSO but declined, and now reading about some of them, and what you go through, I am sorta glad I went another route. i was fixing to close up for the night because i had my surgery today but i seen your post and i had to post back.
I know we are all diff hon and at first i felt the same way about dmso and there diff types of dmso but after seeing my bladder today i know it has really helped me my bladder looks 90% better then it did a year ago i use heparin and marcaine.
I hope you find something that will help you like this has helped me i couldnt believe how much better my bladder looked because i didnt give up.
