Hi everyone,

Last night I had some diarrhea from something I ate, I don't know what. So I drank a lot of water at night and took some acidophilus. This morning I was afraid to drink too much as I was leading a hike for kids so I drank about 12 oz of water. During the hike I drank another 16, and at work this afternoon I drank another 16. So about 5 1/2 cups of water. I did not feel the need to urinate until 7 pm tonight since 9 am. Am I retaining it? (I peed what I felt was a full pee and it was very dark) or is it that my body needed the water because of my stomach upset and soaked it up?

This has happened a few times without the diarrhea so I wondered about it...

Emily,
When you have diarrhea, you lose extra fluid so you need to drink more. Then when you are outside on a sunny day, you lose extra fluid. Dark urine, concentrated urine, is from too little fluid in the body to make urine. It sounds like you were dehydrated.... You need to drink more, that is all. Now if you catch-up on your fluid requirements and you still don't make a normal amount of urine, call your doc cuz you there may be something else wrong.
Now if your urine looked the same and you only had that amount of urine, I would suspect retention.
If you have a low grade fever, you lose a lot of fluid also. I drink 2 - 3 liters every day and my urine is usually almost colorless it is so diluted!!
Did you have pain? I am just curious, My bladder freaks out if I have concentrated urine.

I agree, try to up your fluid intake. Your body is trying to makeup what it has lost!!!
Feel better soon....

I think the others are right. Diarrhea does strip the body of fluids so you need to drink a lot to make up for it. If you haven't had any more diarrhea, your fluid intake should catch up very soon. In the meantime, try to drink a little more --- that should help.

And, of course, if you still have concentrated urine in a day or two, you should be calling your doctor.

Warm healing thoughts,
Donna

Thanks everyone for the advice

Yes, I did have a little burning due to the concentrated urine. I am still a bit sick but trying to up my water intake (hard because I'm nauseated) and I'll call the Dr. if I don't feel better soon.
