Ok, I'm flaring now... and it's my fault. I was probably going to have a mini-flare anyway because my period is due Thursday, but I went ahead and ate tomato sauce last night in some kind of fit of IC denial. I took Prelief, but I guess I ate too much tomato and the Prelief wasn't quite enough. What a dummy.

I did it because my father-in-law and his wife were in town and wanted Italian food... so we went to a restaurant and it just looked so good. *sigh* I was already starting to flare by the end of dinner... luckily, my father-in-law, his wife, and my husband have all been amazingly understanding of IC (they've gone on the Net and researched it), so when I said Mr. Bladder was not pleased last night, we all got out of the restaurant as fast as possible, went home so I could take my pain meds, and then we all put on swimsuits and sat in the hot tub to chat together with big bottles of water so I could have heat and company. They asked a lot of questions about IC, and so it was actually a nice evening despite the continuous commentary from the old bladder.

Anyway, the bladder is still ANGRY at me today, of course, but this too shall pass... I hope

;)

So to all of you out there who eat trigger foods and then feel guilty -- you have company right now :)

I have done it too. I am sorry you are hurting though. Is your hot tub chlorinated? I am wondering if that could be making it worse. I know there are sometimes when I go swimming I will hurt more and flare a little. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Well, usually the hot tub is okay with me... my husband maintains it with bromine, rather than chlorine, which is supposedly gentler on skin, etc. Also, he always uses the least amount of bromine possible to keep the hot tub sanitized... and he buffers the whole thing with some scoops of baking soda so the water is nice and soft.

So, usually I don't have a problem with it, but it is possible that if I was already flaring, even that little bit might make it worse...

I'm going to stay out of there tonight and see what happens...

I am also going to eat plain chicken and rice!!

:)

Sorry to hear you're flaring! Hope you're feeling better soon!

You know, last night I had pasta with organic tomato sauce (stuff I've eaten many times with no discernable side effects) and before I knew it, I had frequency and burning. It really kind of took me by surprise. Fortunately it didn't last more than a few hours but it made me wonder how that happened! I usually don't have many problems with food, aside from a few exceptions (like asparagus...)

I know what you mean though -- Italian food is pretty irresistable!

Get better soon!

Ouch! Sorry you're feeling bad today! I think your post may have been a "sign" (maybe an omen) for me though. I was JUST thinking that I have been feeling so much better lately and after school today I am having a pizza party for my newspaper staff and that maybe I would try a little slice just to see......I think I am feeling a bit of IC denial right now too :) I put a smidge of honey mustard on my chicken last night and no flare, but I bet a slice pizza wouldn't go over as well. SIGH- I hope you are flare-free soon:kiss:

Marcie --- I'm with you, chicken and rice is BOORRRING.... but it is the absolute safest thing for me to eat, so when I flare, I eat it. I grump and grouse about it though. I wish I were more like my husband ... that man can eat the same bland thing every single day and not get bored. I don't know HOW he does it. It's almost inhuman how he is never bored with anything. I tease him about it all the time... ;)

I miss my pre-IC days, when I'd go out to exotic, spicy restaurants (Moroccan, Ethiopian, Indonesian) and also could eat Italian and Mexican and Thai without fear....

Actually, sometimes, I still can eat some no-nos if I take Prelief, which is why I thought I had a chance last night. It's weird how Bladder has a mind of its own though...

Jen, so sorry you are flaring again! Don't beat yourself up too badly, dear, we all do exactly what you did. We get to feeling better, then we eat something on our no-no list. Then, we suffer the consequences and ask ourselves why did we eat that- even with prelief?

I hope you are able to get ahead of the pain and that this is a mild flare! Hugs to you! Carla:kiss:

Hey Jen,
Food is such a big part of our lives, especially our social lives, its so hard to be "perfect" all the time. I was thinking last night that not very many people could give up all the foods we do, alchohol and caffiene permanently. Its so nice to hear that your family is so supportive,
Cath
